Got word from our resident young Kiwi whiff genius Zac that he's in! This brings the total interested participants up to 8! Woo hoo!!!

I'll donate the prize(s), but if anyone wants to volunteer to moderate the Alt. Landing Gear/VSTOL GB, now would be the time to speak up. Otherwise yours truly will assume that duty.

We're looking at a February 1st kickoff.

I'll play if I can, no promises though.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Leigh it would be awesome to have you aboard! The GB will run fom February 1st until August 1st which will hopefully be plenty of time. Just having you express interest in it made me smile.

I might have to join in too if I can find the time - I love VTOL concepts.  Now where is that idea I had for a VTOL F-14???

Would whif markings/stores on a Harrier count?

Well a Harrier is a VSTOL, but I think in keeping with the spirit of this GB it would need to have a what-if paintjob, markings and load-out. I'm hoping being a bit loose with requirements will encourage more participation.

Woo hoo this makes 10 participants!

Hmmmmm.....

Since the Eduard Albatri kits (D.II, D.III, and W.4's) have an extra upper wing in some of the kits, a STOLbatros with Spats might have to appear..........

Woah that's one smoking idea there Daryl! Great to have you aboard.

For folks across the pond in the U.K., our fearless SIG leader says there's a VTOL build for Telford next year. Since the Alt. Landing Gear/VSTOL GB will run here Feb 1st thru Aug 1st, this GB might be a good way for SMW 2007 SIG folks to get their feet wet for Telford.

What if two of the ideas I have never *had* a landing gear to begin with?

The manned buzz bomb of late WW-II might need to get some sort of low-rider tricycle gear with some monster spats for the mains........designwise it makes sense.
Well, at least to me it does.

And...the "Almost Lighter Than Air   Ship" being based off the old R-100 Zepplin never had a landing gear per se...........................
That would mean any landing gear would be alternate.

Mmmmmmm (thinking aloud again)  :dum:  :dum:  :dum:

Keep the good ideas coming, Daryl!

P.S. I think an airship would qualify as it definately has STOL characteristics.

Did someone say a V-1 with spats:

as for the manned version - there was this:

Maybe you could combine the two?

Right, so this is now a proposed VTOL GB?  If so, it may make sense to run it to coincide with the Telford theme for 2007.  I'll chat to Martin & Geoff about it.

Thanks, Nev! I thought broadening the requirements to Alt. Landing Gear/VSTOL would be a way to get more participants. Little did I know there was a VSTOL build planned for Telford as well. This could be a good way for folks planning on being part of that to try out some ideas etc.

Nev,:

My understanding is that this is

1. What if  :P
with bonuses of
2. Alt Landing Gear
3. V/STOL
but first and foremost what-if in general.

If criteria are different, 90% of my stuff no longer qualifies.  <_<

Daryl J., looking forward to this one immensely
