Or just a whole bunch of squaddies to heave them over there?

Squaddies.  Why bring in more equipment when you can have the whole crew move the cranes around.

Quote from: NARSES2 on February 15, 2026, 12:52:18 AMCheers lads.

I thought they might have had something to do with the outer set of tracks, but then thought "but if so they'd need a set of cranes on both sides"  so how ??

Crane mounting brackets on both sides of the hull. They'd just swap the crane from one
side to the other.

Simples  ;D  Thank you
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I lost interest when I saw it had those dreadful individual track links. No thanks. Have we not evolved beyond those horrors? I was looking forward to the "what if" version for possible Imperial AT-AAV (All Terrain Armoured Assault Vehicle). A lot more sensible I think than those wibbly, wobbly AT-ATs ! ;)  ;D . A bunch of 1/72 Imperial assault troops would scale in nicely . Ah well, back to the drawing board! :-\

From the picture I see that every link is made up of 6 (six!!!) parts. Looks like madness to me. Is this a so they can say their kit has 10.000 parts?
Not one for me, that is for sure.

When it comes down to the number of parts i'm not too worried about assembly (as long as there is adequate joining surfaces).  It's the clean up after sprue removal which i find the PitA.

That's why I found this approach interesting. If it works as advertised, you assemble them on the jig then you can remove the sprue gates, all going well you should be able to sand eight at the same time.

I don't personally care how interesting the approach to assembling the tracks is. There are 102 links per track with 6 parts per link!! 😮 😮.
Sorry but that is simply ludicrous.

To be honest, that sort of ridiculously fussy and fiddly construction with zillions of tiny parts just puts me right off buying so many modern AFV kits. I'd sooner have even vinyl one piece tracks than individual links!

That's a real deal breaker. Especially when you conside that many AFV kits now have link and length type tracks instead of individual links. No, this one's to be avoided. Sorry Takom. 😕

While I agree that this is excessive (especially for a tank with so many links) if done right the jig approach isn't too bad and results in nice tracks. The Rye Field Models T-55A uses two jigs to assemble the tracks. Each link has three parts, two of which are tiny pins that press into place. I was dreading that part of the build, but it was quick easy and I only had one link that accidentally got glued to the one before it.

kerick

The six parts per link is pretty excessive. I would much rather deal with link and length. Better if you could figure out how many you actually need vs how many would be hidden and leave out the hidden ones. Especially if the vehicle has side skirts. Just don't let anyone look up the skirts!
