Very sad about your sister. :(

I hope the medics can sort her out this time as well.

Thanks, that's really appreciated. I know that my sister has a hospital appointment next week. Just have to wait and see.

Sorry to read about your sister, hope the treatment works, but don't forget to look after yourself as well.

I'm very sorry to read about your Sister. Hope the medication works well. Take care of yourself buddy.

By the way, I love cornwall. I've spent summer holidays in Cornwall last year. Went to Penzance, Saint Michaels mount, Lands End, Saint Ives, Polperro, etc. etc. We stayed in Looe. Lovely place on earth!

As David says, Looe is a cracking place.

I used to visit some friends there in the 60s, and Vic ran a company that took rod fisherman out to various bays in the area and collected them later in the day. I used to drive some of his boats and those fishermen were always in a hurry. GREAT fun.  ;D

Thanks for your kind words and wishes, I will pass them along.
I 've just got back from the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth, it's run by the council. There's a bar, bandstand, loads of benches, sunken gardens and various plants. Even flowers that are supposed to bloom in August are out. There's a Mediterranean feel about the place. Right down the end of the grounds is the sea with panoramic views of Falmouth Harbour and Swanpool beaches.
They had a local band playing sea-shanties, some of the people got up and danced, it's free entry although parking is very limited but there's plenty of buses that stop outside
My arms and face are turning brown, sleeping isn't a problem and the birdsong is amusing.

I didn't get much sleep last night my bladder had other ideas probably from all the tea that I have been drinking during the day.
I have to admit that the Cornish pasties taste better than the ones up in London and so does the ice cream although the prices are about the same.
The castle has had most of the guns removed and its really a barracks,  one day I will visit it but not this time.
Just taking things easy.

Monday 19th May 2025

The morning was spent assembling a 'Gift in a Tin', something vaguely resembling a twin engined propeller fighter made out of materials resembling Meccano with a screwdriver plus spanner.
The instructions weren't very useful but four hours later it was built. After lunch I walked with my mum to Kimberly Park which is off Kimberly Park Road. The gardens are pleasant with a lily pond at one end, bandstand and a children's climbing/playground area. Plenty of different trees, the tea hut was closed.
On our return I was given the task of putting together a metal peacock for my mum's garden and setting up the solar powered fountain.
I'm now listening to Sara Cox on BBC radio 2,dinner is being prepared.

After breakfast we played Scrabble and I managed to use up all my counters, a light lunch then a walk to the Esso garage to catch the U1 bus to Truro. It's a sort of magical mystery route to Truro not direct on the A30.
I nipped into Superdrug to get some shampoo and deodorant and then we went and had a look around the charity shops, with the indoor market which naturally warranted an ice cream.
Mum commented on the lack of people in the square, there's a boat that's been made to look like a paddle steamer which once was a restaurant but now looks like its hired out for parties. The tide was out with just a trickle of water.
Some of the derelict buildings have been restored or renovated into flats whilst there are several projects for new homes to be built.
From what I have seen you definitely need a dog and a car if you live near Falmouth. Although there are a few charging stations, petrol stations and the odd supermarkets but nothing on the streets.

I checked on eBay and was offered the Revell/Monogram Convair 1/72 RB-36 Peacemaker model kit for less than a hundred British pounds which included postage. Sorry no can do. Got to wait until September until there's space on the workbench and funding is available.

Thursday 22nd May 2025

My holiday is nearly over, popped into Falmouth for some 'thank you 'cards and presents after yesterday's walk in the park. Well it's a woodland area with a stream running through it with tributaries running down from the farmers fields. A lot has changed since I was last there, more walkways leading to newly built houses. There's an area dedicated to wood carvings and benches made out of treetrunks. Very peaceful.
Today I bought scones and clotted cream, mum had made some strawberry jam carried over from last year. Tasted yummy with a mug of tea. My brother-in-law is going to give me a lift to Penmere Station tomorrow afternoon.
He's writing the software for a local brewery, sort-of stay at home dad who also looks after my sister (his wife). Plus the estate (very large garden). At the bottom of the garden is the stream which has a makeshift bridge made out of wooden pallets, either that or walk along the plank of wood. It's on the list of jobs to do but not just yet.
The teenagers are at university, home for the holidays and all have summer jobs. Hotels and kitchens.
Just doing the final packing.

The journey home.
This started when I caught the 14:21 train from Penmere. Somewhere in the past this branch line was double tracked until it reached a bridge over a private road and then carried on to the Falmouth Docks where it terminates. Penmere being the only station with one platform.
The 14:54 was delayed by three minutes and when boarding coach H most of the seats had been reserved. I managed to get a seat with the back towards the engine near the toilets. Taunton Station was interesting as it had a pair of snow ploughs on one of the sidings. On the approach to Reading Station the train made some weird noises coming to an abrupt stop as the power had been switched off due to trespassers on the track. After 30 minutes we were on the move again.
Got to Paddington Station, no barriers at platform 8, Jubilee line tube train stuck at Bond Street Underground Station. Caught a train to Westminster tube station, two buses later I got home at around ten o'clock that night.

So why am I awake at 5am, sorting out my WiFi connection and listening to the rain failing. I know that I should be asleep, I will be doing this a bit later. Listening to the traffic isn't quite the same as the sea lapping over a beach . Just getting back to the Southeast London routine.
Yes I did have a great time, thanks for asking.
My little sister starts her chemotherapy next week, she's coming home with a pump so instead of spending the day in hospital she can release the drugs into her system at home. As the nurse said,  'Jill must be the only person she knows who is looking forward to chemotherapy '.
Jill Wright (Renue Wellbeing) has a Facebook page and continues to carry out rekie for her
clients on her good days.

You can expect a lot more noise around your place on Sunday as Charlton play Orient at Wembley for a place in the Championship. Win or Lose, those fans will be coming home cheering or groaning.
