That sounds interesting!!

The grey is actually a water-based acrylic instead of the usual Testors enamels that I tend to work with.  It actually seems to be rather good at smoothing out the layered surface of a 3D-printed model like this, something that would require multiple layers of the enamel.  Besides I have a hard time finding a good grey enamel paint for my navy planes.  They aren't readily available in hobby stores in my area, and I usually have to pay ungodly amounts to ship them  :banghead:

Unfortunately the Bearcat has suffered damage to its propellers.  My coat caught it and dragged it off my workbench and into the floor as I passed by.  Now I have to take apart the entire nose and replace the props  :banghead:

Sorry to hear that mate ..we've all been there one way or another.
Hopefully it goes back together without to much issues.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

:-\  That sucks, mate... Hopefully you can fix the damaged bits without too much trouble.
I've had that happen to a model or two because of a baggy robe that i wear around the house when it's cold...  I learned my lesson the last time it happened so now i roll the sleeves back to avoid the models from snagging a sleeve and being thrown off the bench or even avoid wearing baggy clothes at the bench.

Well unfortunately due to the way the nose was constructed I'm probably going to have to cut off the entire extended nose section to get those bloody props off, and then print new props and a couple of new shafts.  I may just go for a straight-up redesign of the old nose, make it look more like the front end of the engine nacelle on an E-3.

Spino

Still haven't been able to find a decent model of an E-3 engine nacelle, that doesn't cost a fortune.  I may let this project sit for a bit, got a couple others vying for my attention too.

There's a free E-3 here:

just print the bits you need.

There are probably other options there, too - I just searched AWACS.

HTH

Meant to say E-2 lol, don't know why I said E-3  :banghead:

That's not an E-3 anyway, it's a 737 AEW&C, much smaller than an E-3.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I have not forgotten about the superprops.  The Super Corsairs are both in advanced stages of completion, and the Turbo Bearcat is going to get a re-worked nose.  I'll cram that T40 in there or bust!

Woohoo! Resurrection is da poo-poo! Throwing old projects away would be against my religious beliefs..  ;)

Carry on! I would love to see more of this as turbo conversions have always been on my lengthy to do list.

I'm putting the Turbo Bearcat on hold for a while again, but the Corsairs are coming along nicely.  Here's a shot of both the AU-2 and F2G-3N near completion.

You cannot view this attachment.

The AU-2 uses a combination of leftover decals from the Revell Corsair kit that I built the F2G from, and some roundels I printed up myself.  Loadout is currently a single drop tank plus two Tiny Tim rockets and two M117 GP bombs, but I've still got six more pylons to fill!  Most likely these will end up carrying either rocket pods or Mk-82s.  As for the F2G-3N, it of course has the radar pod fitted, and carries a pair of drop tanks for maximum range.

Or maximum endurance. :)
