G'day all!
Just recieved my brand-spanking new 1960s vintage Heller Yak-3 from our local eBay clone (only NZ$12.50 for the kit).  B)  Good value as everything is there - even the green "glue capsule". Not strictly a what if, but oh well...
So, who has built this, and what did you think? I may need some extra decals as the kit's transfers are understandably yellowed...anyone got some spare WW2 V-VS decals just in case?
I'm thinking of modeling one of two new-build Yaks in NZ...I know the owner of one so fingers crossed for good pics...

Cheers
Zac

Are you thinking about the OFMC's Yak 3?  That's a Yak 11 with an Allison!

Well yes...that and another, formerly used at Reno. THAT career came to an end after a landing accident in I think 1999/2000. I'd probably do the OFMC a/c as it is actually complete and airworthy. Why do you ask?

The markings I'm looking for is an aircraft from 150 GIAP, red 12, said to be piloted by V Nosov, Hero of Soviet Union. Please see my thread in General Modeling Chat, "1/72 Yak-3 decals".
Much obliged.

Ollie

Why do I ask?

Because I love old airplanes.  I spend half my time flying and maintaining them...

;)  B)

K5054NZ

I've spent half my life worshipping them...the other half has been modeling them...

Ollie

Nothing comes close to them.

As much as the Cessna Caravan is fun to fly, nothing comes close to flying the Harvard or Focke-Wulf...

  :)

K5054NZ

Too true, Ollie, too true. And as a Canadian what's your favourite? Mine is hard to say...so many great ones...

Ollie

I have to say that I'm partial to the Harvard, since we have one in the family.  However, nothing beats a Spit!

K5054NZ

One in the family? Ah, so now your Modeling Madness ID makes sense...nice. Spitfire definitely...I've just finished a conversion of Airfix's Mk.I i 1/72 to the prototype. Mustangs, the Lavochkin La-9,   . And the Yak. If you can call a fighter "cute", then the Yak-3 must be a contender for it.
Anyway, I have possibly gained a set of decals for this bird. The kit is going together well but I need to find out whether the bird is two seater or single.

Ollie

Indeed, the Yak has this troublemaking look of his...

C-FWOL is the Focke-Wulf, the Harvard is C-GBQB...

  :)

K5054NZ

Okay, have to start afresh looking for decals...my contact unfortunately parted company with his some time ago. Damn.
A Focke-Wulf, eh Ollie? Style...I like!

Ollie

Check this out K5054NZ, it's a report of an airshow we attended last August :

Scroll down a wee bit until you see my handle (OlivierC-FWOL)...

You'll see the Focke, the Harvard and the Pilatus.  That's it for now.   :)

Well the Yak is well underway, some decals should arrive in a couple of weeks for it. In addition, a mate in France has set a 1/48 scale vacform Yak-3 for me, which I'll investigate a scheme for. Probably aother warbird, possibly Australian.

Ollie - only four or so images would come up for me! I'll have to try again, I'd love to see your Focke-Wulf. I do like the Harvard, though. Silly question probably - have you done a build of it yet? And can I see pics?

Okay, you tease: where are the in-progress pics????

Even if you don't have a digicam, somebody you know, does, eh?

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.
