flicking through the WWII British Secret Projcts book the Gloster Jet Bomber project stuck me as looking quite a lot like a Meteor, anyway, a quick bit of maths revealed that a 1/48 Meteor was pretty much spot on in fuselage dimensions for a 1/72 Jet Bomber...

so I scanned the line drawing from the book & scaled it up to 1/72...

work started today...

it looks like the wing won't be suitable though, I'll have to have a look at what I can canibalise for that & the engine pods

Nice idea this is gonna be fun to watch. What you gonna do for a canopy?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

:D Erm Mike

Why don't you ask Tsrjoe about it afterall he did the model for the book  !!!!!, he should have some good ideas on the subject.

Looking good BTW (and nice to see others taking up the challenge ;) )

Putty+black paint could be an answer, while if you want to have clear glazed parts, this is hard scratch-building...

regarding a canopy for it, could the Ar 234 canopy be made to fit?

NARSES2

I'd go for the High Altitude scheme myself as it's gorgeous

Best of luck with it Mike

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

If you want a clear canopy, I think that Squadron's thermoform clear styrene stuff would work.

I need to order some myself, I pooched a few canopies to a point beyond Future's fixative ability.  :(

BlackOps

Looks like a good start, I like the night camo myself.

I'm not sure if it's tapered enough, but would a B-29 or B-50 canopy work?

I know he did!  ;)  his is painted on, I think I'll try plunge moulding one unless I can find something that fits perfectly (unlikely), although I'll probably leave that bit til last

thanks for the comment chaps

speaking of post-war camo...

A truly masochistic modeler would scratchbuild the wings.  And not those wimpy thin jet type wings, either.  We're talking cutting ribs and skinning baby!

Or I guess you could take the easy way out and cannibalize maybe a 1/48 B-29???

But it's truly a cool idea.  can't wait to see it finished!

Mike, this epitomises Whiffery! Best of luck, you're starting with a great subject so you might go a bit JMN on it after a while, when you realise that you want to do it justice.  ^_^

And I'm with Wooksta on the paint, that last one is a winner. Balsa wings? Yep, and if you want to seal the surface for easier sanding try using a 50/50 mix of white glue and water. It won't eat plastic that it gets on, no fumes, and it's really easy and cheap. You could play with the mix ratio if you like, but that one worked for me  ;)

Above all, KEEP US POSTED!
