I went to the Grissom air museum outside of Indianapolis Indiana http://www.grissomairmuseum.com  on vacation and loved it. I want to build each plane they have on display in 1/48th. Do they make them all that big? Here is the list that I need to know about..... B-47, C-1, C-47, c-119, ec-135, f-11f,  f-100, f-101, F-84, Hup-2, KC-97, 0-2, t-33, t-37, u-3 and ys-11. Do they make them in 1/48th?

The U-3 is the one I'd think most unlikely to be available at all.  If memory serves me correctly, it was a military variant of the Cessna 310 and there've been few kits of that one and none that I know of recently.  The YS-11 was kitted by a Japanese company in 1/72 and there's one currently (I think) available in 1/144 but that's it.

For the list of availability, you could use the search engine of Hannants at http://www.hannants.co.uk/ with scale 1:48
For the whole project, I fear you would almost need a museum too: the C-135 and C-97 would have at 1/48 spans of 3 ft each...

QuoteKC-97, 0-2, t-33,
What is a Zero-2? An A6M2 Zero? Or did you type O-2 as 0-2? O0oh... Well, this is not insulting a dear twin-boom of mine, this is just writing with smile. I remember a model kit entitled proudly Mirage 111, for the Mirage III to be called Mirage "3" by museum guides speaking...

Yeah it's 0-2, after all that letter-number stuff I got lazy :P . Yeah I figured I would run into trouble. I have the room now to have planes with a wingspan of 3 foot but who knows about the future. I just wanted to have a scale version of the place.

B-47- Combat Models vacform I think, if anyone did it in 1/48th, they would. Hasegawa 1/72 and Acadamy 1/144 after that.
C-1 - Only one I can think of is the Hasegawa 1/200 scale version.
C-47 - Revell-Monogram, actually it was originally Monogram in 1/48.
C-119 - I think Italeri did this in 1/72
EC-135 - If you are talking the Helicopter the 1/32 scale byRevell, if the KC-135 derivitive then the AmTech 1/72 is the only bet.
F-11F - Do you mean F-111F? Then in 1/48th scale the Acadamy-Minicraft or Zhendfu clone is the only game, if you mean F-11F Tiger then the Hasegawa in 1/72.
F-100 - Monogram did a 1/48th scale kit.
F-101 - Monogram in 1/48th and 1/72 I think.
F-84 - Lots of kits, but Tamiya and I think Revell in 1/48th.
Hup-2 - No Idea!
KC-97 - Acadamy-Minicraft in 1/72 and 1/144
0-2 - Testors did the 0-2 in 1/48th scale
T-33 - Academy in 1/48.
T-37 - 1/72 Hasegawa, 1/48 Monogram
U-3 -
YS-11 - Hasegawa 1/144 and Platz 1/200.

Cheers

Wow...impressive project.  I've always love d the idea of an Air Museum diorama, but I always envisioned it in 1/72.  1/48 will be very impressive!

I have the Monogram 1/48 T/A-37 and F-100 if you have anything interesting to trade...PM if interested.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

The U-3 is the military verson of the Cessna 310 I think. EC-135 is a communication plane, looked more like a passenger plane but has no windows. I have a picture of and will try to post it. I will try to post them all that I took. I have video of them all but the wife had the camera :( . I have to upload them to yahoo I will post when its done.

I don't think she got all the planes in question.

Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!! It looks like its going to be a project that will last a few years!

I can't find anything on a C-1. What is it?

Kawasaki C-1:

Japanese medium-lift transport -- think 1/2 of a C-141A. IIRC Hasegawa did a 1/200 kit of it.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

YS-11?  Teh largest kit I know of that oen was a 1/72 job that was done by a Japanese company years ago.  I suspect you'd have to pay top dollar to obtain one today.

Nope nothing like that there, I'm wondering if it's a typo. I have looked thru my pics and don't see anything, so I don't know what it is.

Would the "C-1" be a Grumman "Trader"?  The COD design that shares a lot of common components with the S-2 and E-1?
