In 1950, the Spanish Navy bought an X-carrier from the US Navy. Renamed The Admiral Santa Cruz, this ship was the pride of Spain. This shot taken along the South American coastline to show off their new El Nigra Gato, 'The Black Cat' (a Panther) newly entering their service.

Panther in spanish is "Pantera".  Black Panther would be "Pantera Negra".  Admiral is "Almirante" in spanish.  Hope this helps.   B)

I love this Spanish panther altough this is a very improblable name to be chosen for an Spanish aircraft because "pantera" doesn't sounds very "impresive".

Although model A Harrier are called "Matador" (Killer) and model B are called "Bravo" (Fierce) it is not a common pratice to give Spanish names to imported aircraft. Original names are unchanged.

So the Panther would have been simply the Panther in the Armada.

For the aircraft carrier fasionable names in the 50's for the fleet  flag ship are: Canarias, Baleares, Generalísimo, Felipe V, Juan de Austria....

What could be the X-Carrier?. Essex?. And what about for the rest of the carrier wing?.

I would like to see a Crusader (Cruzado) in Spanish Navy markings!!!!
What about an A-4?

Yeah, but I read somewhere that Harriers in Spanish service are rarely called anything but "Harrier".  "Matador" and "Bravo" look good on paper, but why change a perfectly good name?

My point is that the Grummans are always nicknamed cats, as in miaow, so Gato is good for me as a nickname for the Panther.
