I was uploading some older photos to my Photobucket account, when I ran across this photo I took of the leftovers of my oldest model.  In 1979 or '80, when I was all of 7-8 years old, someone got me a SNAP model of an aircraft carrier.  The whole thing was maybe seven or eight inches long, with two elevators that raised and lowered.  It had an airgroup of truly tiny airplanes, with Phantoms, Skyhawks and four Skywarriors.  I didn't learn that the bigger planes were Skywarriors until much later.  The ship, along with many others I built in those years, disappeared in some incident or other, but I held onto the planes for a long time.  In high school, I found a use for them in assorted tabletop wargames  Gradually, they also disappeared (lost, no doubt, in the carpet or vacuum cleaner).  I was going through a box of stuff from storage, and I found these two in the bottom:

Well, I found this toy aircraft carrier in the dollar store, that might make a suitable model, with a little work.  Not sure about the what-if angle, but if they appear on any carrier but American, the what-if is automatic.  More when I figure this out.
