I bought the ROG battleship for the turrets (for the atac project)...so, am building it as a missile conversion...off to the store to buy some evergreen stock for the tomahawk launchers, and asrocs :

Quoteoff to the store to buy some evergreen stock for the tomahawk launchers, and asrocs :

If you spot a Hypa/Minicraft/Mini Hobbies UUS Sruance or Ticonderoga class in 1/700 then you get the full weapons for ASROC, Mk-26 launchers, Harpoons & Tomahawk boxes. If you can find them then they are handy for detailing 1/700 US warships.

Considering the Era why not do Silo launched Polaris from the former Gun Barbet and fit Terrier missiles as a Hybrid from the late 50's Cruiser conversions.

I really wanna see how this sucker turns out.  Might give me some inspiration to finally paint/finish my languishing fleet.  :D

And absolutely, if you can get some of the Tico/Spruance kits for cheap (They were like 4-5 bucks US for a while there) do so as they are a wealth of supplies.

Thanks for the tips !!!  I shall look on the morrow...still haven't made up my mind about the missile load...polaris and terriers would be cool...maybe even a regulus or two ?????

Are you going to add an Enterprise/Long Beach-style billboard radar?

I was leaning towards the bubble type...we shall see what I can pick up this week at the local shops...

Well, after looking at the cost of the detail kits, I have decided to just scratchbuild the additions...that and the detail and fit of this kit is soooooo bad, that putting railings and all on it would be ridiculous.

All in all, I am pretty happy with how it is coming out :

Those 1/350's are a ton of fun...the modern New Jersey is a great one, and almost falls together.  That is a great kitbash !
Don't know if I am a fan of the 1/700 scale or not...it is a quick build, but the fit problems and lack of detail are astounding.  The more expensive Skywave and Fujimi kits are much better, I am sure !   Have to admit, they sure take up a lot less shelf space too...

Well, built the vls out of some styrene, and added on harpoon and tomahawk launchers, as well as some sp-49 radars :

Looks nifty!

Any chance that begging for some closeups will work?  :D

I am really digging this project. Kinda got the salt water in my veins flowing again. Got me thinking of doing an old WWII flattop refit into a VLS super cruiser or something like that. Thanks for showing your work!

Look behind you!

Here are two closeups, you can see the poor fit of the miniature components...although, what can you expect for 6 bucks or so:

Nice work, even with the materials you started with.
Glad to see another ship model in here!  B)
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.
