Very nice. Is that Stinger pod meant to hold retractable launch tubes?

MMMMMMM Good!

These recent A-10 projects are giving me all kinds of ideas that are good for the brain and bad for the bank account.  I think one of these is just screaming out for a wing-fold conversion and desert camo scheme.

But this one is just so. . . tasty!

Hobbes, from head on, the pod is open to allow for the launch of the Stingers as they sit in the pod.  I took one of the training bomb carriers from my stockpile and did some work to make it hold the stingers.  My thinking on leaving it open like that was that at a FARP/forward airfield, the ground crew could just dump the empty Stinger tubes and snap reloads into place without changing out the whole pod.

noxioux, I'd love to see wing folds done on one of these.  I had enough problems with re-positioning the ailerons and rudders on this one, but maybe down the road that would be a project to attempt.

Ok, I was gonna keep my yap shut, however, I'm working out on a USN A-10 withthe wings folded. A mid 70's early 80 two tone colour scheme.

The key for me is that I have the Matchbox kit and the wings join just outboard of the wheel pods. Looks as cool as cheese. The ends of both wings are solid so I need only drill some holes, add some wire and a reinforcing thingy to keep the wings upright. Oh yeah, a hook and a dual nose gear too.

Lotsa talk I know, I guess I should built it now! :P

That is badass.  You must be one patient guy if you can not only do such an awesome and difficult paint scheme, but also work with a hobbyrcrap kit.  Outstanding Hawg

I really had no idea what I was getting into with the kit.  Now I know to avoid Hobbycraft like the plague!  THe details were poor or nonexistant in the cockpit, so I scratched what I wanted it to look like.  The wings had a bad fit, so I had to sand and shim until that was fixed.  The weapons in the kit were good only for the spares box, luckily I have a bunch of Hasegawa's weapons sets in the stash.  But you know what?  It was all fun to see what I could come up with as fixes for all these problems.

The paint scheme was knocked out in one afternoon of painting, believe it or not.  I laid on the base coat of green a couple of days prior, and then when  Iworked up the courage, I started with the stencils I had made and put on the other colors.  I'd take only long enough to clean the airbrush between colors and it was done.  There are some small spots of overspray, but for the most part they got covered by later colors.

If I ever do it again, I think I'll try to come up with a more logical approach to painting MARPAT.

Somewhere on some thread at some point, I had described another way to paint pixellated schemes using, essentially, home-made mini-painting pads of various sizes (with a bit of sprue on the end as a vertical handle).

I've tried felt, too.

Wow, that digi camo scheme is awesome!!

The USMC A-10 is one of the most talked about whifs round here, but this is the first one I think I've ever actually seen.  Great job.  B)

What I did was use some of my wife's scrapbooking paper punches to cut stencils onto manila envelopes in "random" pixel patterns.  Then I dialed my airbrush down to the tightest spray I could get and started shooting.

I didn't plan the black as well as I should have, and as a result I don't have tail codes on the plane (yet) and one of my stars & bars is a black circle, but overall I am pleased with the look.

Thanks again for all the encouragement!
