During the great Mongol war, the maximus part of the Rome's aerial reconnaissance was carried out by 5th(V) cohort of the Spanish air legion.( a wholly owned subsidiary of Roman Air power inc.) The brunt being born by the Gall heavy industry and pie factory built RM  X11 "Orbitordicta" . A cannon armed and up engined version of a tried and tested Gallic design ,used in numbers during the Moorish rebellion and incorporating the successful  long range " Sahara" tanks in place of the "Horse god" missiles.

True confessions time: I really started this project with the intentions of making a contra rotating prop carrier fighter. My search for propellers was ...alas....fruitless.........oh well it will go" back in the box" until some come along and Ill introduce the project to Mr Muscle and start again.

Nice, Dork, very nice..... the blend of colours in the camo looks just right. Shame about the contra-props tho, would have looked, erm, 'very' different ! ;)

Nice stuff Dork. Aren't those little ones fun? You can say 'screw the lead-foil seat belts, let's the whiffing begin!'  :P

I love this Roman Empire stuff you guys do.  Talk about going way back for whif inspiration!!

This may be a stupid question, but do you make your own decals, or are they pieced together from the spares box?

Either way it's a very cool model!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

"There are no 'stupid' questions, only stupid answers" - Somebody far more famous than I, said that.... dunno who though !

My guess is that the laurel wreath came from a passing 109 or 190 sheet, the roundels from something vaguely African (Chad or Cameroun, something of that ilk), the centre of the roundels are Italian axe thingies, dunno where he go them from, but I'm sure they had them on the white bands around WWII Macchi's Veltro's etc. SPQR & V could easily come from any sheet of ID letters, and finally the badge on the nose looks a whole lot like an RAF fighter unit.... 23 Sqn, maybe off an old Phantom or Lightning, that wasn't wise enough to hide when he was wandering through his stash....

....now I know you think that I have inside knowledge on Dorks' outpourings, and sometimes it's true I have been 'present at the conception' of some of them. This one.... I really am just guessing !

That would be the fasces.  It was a bundle of 12 rods tied together with ribbons, with an axe stuck in them.  They were a symbol or Roman authority, and any Roman who had a senior position such as Tribune or Consul had a bunch of blokes called Lictors who were his general assistants and dogsbodies.  They walked in front of whoever they represented wherever he went, carrying his fasces.  Together the Lictors and the Fasces represented his power and authority.

I'm sure Chris will know more (and correct any errors of mine)  ;)

The Hunter Gatherer is correct in what he spake...well sort of. ;)

The roundels were Spanish (there was a clue there HG) and the flashes and insignia ? yes they were old RAF.  Eagles and the like seem to have been a big "Roman" symbol so for me anything from a chicken to a sparrow will do.

Thanks for the kind words............HG will have the cheque in the post

Very "Bread and Circuses" ------ I love it!

Could we get a close up of one of those roundels, please?

Figure for that much work, you should be able to show them off, eh?
