The Wooksta!

The 1990 edition of Derek Wood's "Project Cancelled" made mention of a Lightning F1A equipped with nuclear tipped Genie AAMs.  This is one I've been wanting to do for a while, so I made a start last year by taking an old Lightning I did years ago and stripping it.

Then, like so many of my projects, it was stuck to one side.  Last week it was dug out and I did some more work on it, enough to get it finished.  And it is, apart from the Genie missiles.

mmmm, Lightning....

Whats with the lack of refueling probe tho?

There was a Lightning written off cos a tech spilled some Mercury inside the cockpit

That is nice work so far.  One thing that has me puzzled though is where1 did you manage to locate 1/72nd scale Genie's?  The only kit I recall that had a pair of those in smaller scale was that old box scale release of the F-101B from Monogram.  Does Hobbycraft offer Genie's in their 1/72nd scale F-89 Scorpion kit?

Mercury spillage?  Is that a Britush technical term?  Having spent untold hours wriggling on my belly like a reptile cleaning up mercry spills it sure conjures up images of wrack and ruin, but I'm confused!

Nice Lightning... "When it's right... it's right" Dunno who said that but it prolly had your model in mind !

So what's next... ? Hunter with a tac nuke balanced by a long range tank ?

OK I'll get me coat !

NARSES2

She looks good in that scheme Lee - very unusal and almost like a test bird.

So how many Lightnings have you got now ?

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Great stuff there Lee, as always.

Like the look of the lightning in anti flash - makes me wonder what many different types would look like painted that way.  I'm pretty sure that it was you with the f-105 painted that way, and she was a beauty too...

Mercury spillage can and will be fatal to an airframe. It causes savage intergranular corrosion that permeates between rivetted joints and causes fatal structural failure in aircraft.

How bad is it?

Well, a 4 month old Airbus A330 was written off a few years back due to a spill of mercury from a cargo in its holds that had not listed the material. It is THAT bad.
I can easily believe that spilling mercury in a cockpit would write off the aircraft.

Cheers (and good looking model as well Wooksta)

Lightnings are gorgeous, but in anti-flash?!?!?!

Captain Canada

Looking good, Wooksta!

I've got a similar, nuclear armed Lightning in sight, but it will have a semi-recessed missile in the belly, and no landing gear......
