Well they've got a navy, so why not
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks guys, glad you all liked it.

Lancer, yes they are much beter looking then the F 16. Wish the Belgian governement had realy decided to go for the Viggens back then.

Chris, only one way to find that out  :P

Mike, skyhawks, now there's an idea.

Noxioux, actually it"s a Verlinden cardboard tarmac section glued to a home made MDF base. So you could say I did part of it myself.

Upnorth, stil not to late to get starting. plenty of intresting schemes around.

Ian, looking forward to see your Swiss version, Anti shipping, not as strange as it sounds, after all, very big lakes in Switserland.

 and thanks again everyone

Hi Patrick,

A real stupid question, but do you glue your model to the tarmac section?

Lovely model mate!

Just a drop in post here...instead of gluing planes to the base, I have been using steel pins in the bottom of the wheels and corresponding locating holes in the base...this also gets rid of the need for any nose weights....

am really looking forward to some more viggs...can't see enough!!

Hi Allan,  thanks for the compliment.
Not a stupid question at all, you know what they say: There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.
And to answer your question, no glue used to hold the models on the base. In fact, the bases are only used for taking the pictures. My models used to be on them but I don't have enough shelfs anymore to have my models sit on bases. Therefore I stored the bases and only use them for the pictures. Only a few dioramas are still on display but there also, no glue or pins are used. They are not supposed to be transported, and when they are, occasionaly, I always remove the model first.

BTW, greg, nice tip on the pins. Could come in handy on my next diorama. Although I'll have to build some more shelfs first. <_<

Yes I did use the words Swiss and Anti-Shipping in the same sentance !
I cansee ti now, Swiss Viggens knocking the stuffing out of traffic on the River Rhein. Could be an interesting sight to see.

Years ago, during one of our chats in the defunct chatroom, we came up with that idea of a Swiss anti-greenpeace Flagon.....I drew a pic of it, it was pretty neat !

Radish

I once had a scenario where three Very Short Sunderlands of the Swiss Navy took off in formation from Lake Geneva straight into a mountainside.

Also, in a long lost What If?SIG newsletter, a clever chappie (who???) wrote a full article with drawings of Swiss Navy aircraft, including Harriers, etc., and naval, carrier-borne P-47s.

Quotebut do you glue your model to the tarmac section?

I call that "scale gravity".  Sometimes it is the only answer for notorious tail sitters like the DH Vampire, DH Venom, P-38 Lightning, or OV-10 Bronco (is there a theme here? ).  Glueing to the base also helps in transporting the models- they don't move around (given that you drive like a normal person, if you drive like they guys in BULLIT, all bets are off).

When I saw BAF I thought it was Bolivian Air Force....Wouldn't that be interesting?

Nahhhh, it was a three country side-issue. Germans, Austrians and Swiss in a knife-fight that got out of control over who made the best chocolate and most annoying tourist gifts !

God I hope Caroline doesn't ever read this.... She's VERY German !
