 The Vickers VC10 was one of the contenders for the RAF's AEW platform, as far back as 1964 the FASS ( fore and aft scanner system) was marketed using the tried and tested AN/APS-20S radar. Two sets would have been required. In the same timeframe the VC10 was another candidate for the replacement of the Avro Shackleton MR.3.
 Almost twenty years later and the Vickers Super VC10s were still considered for the AEW platform the only problem being that there wasn't sufficient numbers to complete the order so the closest aircraft was the il-62 Classic which looked very similar in appearance.
 No doubt that the engines, avionics and flight deck would have been changed to the UK specifications.

The build, I'm using the 1/100 VEB Ilyushin Il-62 Classic. I have made a few changes to it's appearance by adding the radomes which I found in my spare parts box and filed down the wings. PSR has begun.
