Gondor

This will hopefully be a short build thread, as most of the ship is built. I did want to post a couple of pictures, though, to show what I have done for the anti-fouling paint, as this ship is more of a painting exercise than anything else.

This looks rather orange in this picture, but I assure you it is fairly red. I had to make my own mix as I don't have the time to wait for the correct paint to become available due to the retailer, Resolution Hobbies, going to a friend of his wedding, so no shipping of Colourcoats colours at the moment. I will be buying some once his website is open for business again.

This is what my mix looks like on the model.

Thats it for now.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

That would be nice for a sci fi build!
That's looking good on the ship. Is the black line next?

Those are the stands that come with the kit.

That will be the last of the paint to go on. Easier to hide any wonky line on the hull.

Non-dihedraled hydrofoils perhaps?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

At a quick glance it can give that impression. It fooled me!

Air foils! Just make them longer!

Anti-fouling paint varies quite a bit by age and manufacturer.

When HMS Exeter (Type 42) commissioned, they wanted to try out a new commercial anti-fouling paint on her, but it was only available in a fetching shade of blue, so she spent much of her career with a blue bottom. Of course, the gentlemen of the Royal Navy were far too polite to make any off-colour comments or hurtful jibes about that...  :-X

Speaking of hydrodynamic mods, HMS Avenger trialled a transom flap ("elevator" on the bottom of the stern, basically) and it made her over a knot faster for no increase in power and only a little weight and complexity. DK Brown says he spent about 15 years trying to get a transom flap onto a frigate before this victory and vindication, only to see it enthusiastically ignored...

If any RN major combattant was going to be converted to hydrofoils, it would have been the Type 21s (Gondor's model), since they were notably fast and agile (and fragile...). They were part of the Vosper Thornycroft export frigate lineage (VT Mk.8s in Vosper-speak) and the earlier Mk.5 Saam class delivered to pre-revolutionary Iran still holds the record for the fastest frigates at some 39 knots.
