So, finally got back into building models as opposed to CGI and decided to tackle my first WIF... a Hawker Siddeley Trident MR1 converted from the AIrfix Trident 1. As many of you probably know Hawker Siddeley proposed a number of variants of the Trident as a replacement for the Shackleton in the early 1960s, from Hatfield's Trident MR1 and MR2 to Woodford's Avro 776 and HS800, all with varying amounts of change from the basic airframe. Ultimately the requirement was met by the HS801 modified from the Comet airframe, beter known now as the Nimrod.

This is the minimum change Trident MR1, with a Milliput pannier, slipper tanks from the Airfix 1/72 Vampire and generic ASM's modded from 1/72 AMRAAMs. All in all a fun build, although i fecked up the windows and had to replace them with decals and the pannier was heavier than expected!

Perfect is the enemy of Finished. I presume. I've never achieved either.

Decal windows for 1/144 'airliners' are very acceptable, some people make good money out of supplying sets of them even.

That looks excellent, very much like the HS proposal.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

I like that. A 1/72 scale one would look perfect hang from my hobby room ceiling.

Very nice!
(of course I'm biased, I built a 776 a few years ago).

Thanks folks!

Hobbes, your 776 was a massive inspiration particularly with respect to the colour scheme and detailing!

Excellent work! I can't believe that entire pannier is made from milliput  :o
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Dizzyfugu

That's ...ugly. And (very) nice!

I'm impressed with the putty work too!  I can sand it off but am not much of a sculptor.

zebedee

Thanks! I grew up with a mother who was a potter and sculptor so was always messing about with clay as a kid...

I saw this on Facebook earlier. The larger pictures here show it off much better. It looks very nice indeed.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

That is really nice, certainly suits the scheme
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well done at least I know what my VEB 1/100 kit is supposed to look like

Captain Canada

Love the look of this one ! The new shape ruins her civilian cousin's good looks, but it looks right for a machine of war ! It would be nice to see a couple of in-progress pics of the pannier coming together.
