I don't know if it's entirely the kit or if it's a combination of the kit and me being out of practice, but the Saro has fought me at every opportunity. It's my first real model where I'm going the distance with PSR and goodness is it giving me the chance to practice! I also think the instructions neglect to tell you to fit the intake fans for the jets but I caught that before I buttoned the fuselage up.

Because the thing has been such a pig, when I fitted the jet exhausts I thought they were just a really bad fit so did a lot of cutting and filing and filling to get them looking nice, only to realise that there are humps that sit on the wing root that are provided as separate parts! Oh well, whiffery of an aircraft that was never actually in production anyway gives me the creative license to just say that the humps were flatter and less pronounced on the production models.

Goodness this is big for a fighter, and a gopping jaw on it too! It's all together now, so I can think about moving to prime it.

You should see the real thing, it used to hang in the roof of the Solent Sky Museum at Southampton, and the only exhibit there that's larger than the SRA.1 is a Short Solent flying boat!  :o

I think it's back at ground level now, but it hasn't shrunk any!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Actually it's a Sandringham, one of only three left and the only one in the UK. As you can see, the exhibits are still all cheek by jowl in there, not helped by the addition of the Hampshire fire and rescue museum and three trams.

Sadly they were unable to move to the Cunliffe-Owen hanger before it was demolished, though I'm not sure how easy moving the Sandringham, 1-11 (again!) or lightship would've been...

First of all, good work.

Second of all, the picture above has fired off some creative neurones and i'm getting mental images of one of these as an open cockpit amphibian biplane...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Ha! Ansett! Haven't seen that name (or scheme) for a few years, now!  ;D

It certainly inspires further whiffing. I keep thinking about how it would look with props on the wings and a crew cabin in the fuselage, what with it being meaningfully larger than a gosling!

Threw a coat of primer at the Saro which has revealed that my PSR wasn't quite as finished as I thought, and also has a nice big run up one side of the hull, but such is life.

Also sanded the wing joins of the meteor flat so that the wings will go on without too much of a gap- my intention is to fit some small magnets to the wings and also drill some holes for some wire such that I can choose to have the wings up or down (because I like the way it looks with the wings down, but I couldn't be satisfied just saying "oh, the wings fold up too but I haven't modelled it")

I've also developed a very silly idea for a paint-only whiff to go with the Saro which I may go ahead with.

I built the Saro a few years ago, it's on here, and must admit it wasn't the simplest of builds. And yes it did suprise me just how big the flippin thing is

Did my first bit of work on these for a while, made a little jig for drilling holes in the meteor and drilled some holes in the starboard wing halves, plus fitted some magnets. My plan is that I'll be able to display it either with a piece of bent wire in the smaller holes to pose the wings up in a folded manner, or with straight wire and the magnets giving the impression of a continuously joined wing. Will it work? Honestly, probably not, but it's fun to try.

Internally I had set myself the goal of fully assembling both planes by the start of may so I had all of may to paint them, but I've always found that work expands to time given so I imagine the paint will still be wet on the first of June!
