RW PR Spitfire, or nearly....Ready for take-off!

I've a couple of PR Spitfire kits that offer options with the roundels placed there, and every time I look at them, they just look wrong. I also find the use of A Class roundels that late in the war odd as well. I presume they are A class ?

Yes, they are, but 'Cotton's Crowd', alias the PRU and later 541 Sqdn. always did things their way.

At first glance I thought they were doing maintenance with it parked on a cliff edge!

St. Eval's a bit like that as it's right on top of a hill, and there's a steep fall down toward the sea on the west side.

Bizarrely all three runways cross at the same point, quite unlike most RAF airfields, and even sillier, the parish church is INSIDE the peri-track! I've been there a few times and the church is full of RAF and aviation memoribilia, well worth a visit if you're in the Newquay area.

I only visited St Eval once while billeted at St Mawgan during the 80's. I just checked Google Maps, the three runways cross close to each other and form an equilateral triangle of grass between them. I believe that the airfield is still used by the RAF as a long range communications aerial farm.

That pic was taken at St. Eval in Cornwall where my Dad was based for a while in 1940-41. Interesting that that aircraft seems to have its whole engine cowling painted black, or a similar dark colour, isn't it? I've not seen that before. Plus the yellow 'tips' are 1/3 of the prop blade's length too!...

Is that a black nose, or have they got all the panels removed?  Looks like there is a "step" down between the lighter fuse and the dark nose.

Just to show how totally silly this kit is, these are all the parts I've got left over. OK the props and canopies will come in handy I'm sure, but why would I need just ONE spare fuselage side?

No idea, the last and only time I was there was during the last Centurary, so it's quite likely that things have changed.

The fuselage side is probably different from the similar side that you used. The differences between the two could be such things as holes for cameras, strengthening plates for hatches, or even just different panels. Not having the kit, I can't really say.
