Yomiton Airfield, Okinawa

In the fall of 1944 USAAF planners asked North American if a single fuselage version of the promising P-82 Twin Mustang then under development could meet range requirements, at a cheaper price and less complexity of the Twin Mustang.  Orders soon commenced for the P-51E, which mated a single P-82 fuselage with the high power Allison V-1710, onto a P-51D wing.

The Kits:

Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star



The P-80 entered limited service at the end of 1945 but production was speeded up for the upcoming invasion of Japan.
The P-80 needed large external fuel tanks to be able to read Japan from the island air based, but as soon as a beach head was established, the P-80 operated from the Japan itself and were much more efficient.
The P-80 depicted sports the invasion markings (green/Yellow bands) for Operation Downfall.

Kyūshū J7W2 Shinden - Kevin



The J7W2 was the second Japanese operational jet aircraft, after the J8N Kikka. The J7W2 was named Kevin by the allies.
The Kevin scored successes against the B-29's bombing Japan from early 1946. Therefore there was a great interest when one was captured nearly intact shortly after the initial invasion. The captured aircraft was quickly transported to the USA and tested.

Kawanishi Ki-124 Colin



Based on the Ki-100, the Ki-124 featured a larger engine and a six bladed propeller. Limited numbers were produced and some were operational before the end of the war.

Supermarine Seafang - Royal Navy



The Seafang was rushed into service with the Royal Navy for Operation Downfall. The Seafang proved much more popular than the Seafire due to the wide track undercarriage and the power of the Griffin engine.
The Seafang depicted sports the invasion markings (green/Yellow bands) for Operation Downfall.

Republic-Ford JB-2 Thunderbug



The JB-2 was a copy of the German V-1 flying bomb. A large scale deployment in Operation downfall was planned with a planned production of 75.000 units.
