OPERATION DOWNFALL GB RULES

1.    The Operation Downfall GB runs from 00:01 Wednesday 1 April 2026 to 23:59 Tuesday 30 June 2026 (all times local).  An extension may or may not be considered/set up according to demand and/or pecuniary overtures.

2.    Entries must be a whif devoted to any vessel, vehicle, aircraft, weapon, human or animal that could have taken part in Operation Downfall.  Models, profiles and stories are eligible.  Entries can be as simple (change of markings or camo scheme) or as complex (full-on kit bashing) as you wish.  For the purposes of this GB, the scope of Operation Downfall is that described at Operation Downfall - Wikipedia, and therefore excludes both the Soviet–Japanese War of 8 August – 2 September 1945 and (in keeping with the principles agreed at the February 1945 Yalta Conference) any Soviet proposals for the invasion of Hokkaido.

3.    You may build, draw or write as many entries as you like.  The posting of in-progress pictures is, as ever, encouraged.  Back stories - however long or short – are always welcome and may win smartie points.

4.    Preparation work is allowed prior to the start of the GB.  This includes the cutting out and cleaning up of parts, even designing and printing your own decals or 3-D parts, but any actual construction is not allowed.  If in doubt as to what's permissible, contact the Moderators.

5.    Part-started models will be considered by the moderators. You should PM to explain what you have done to date (pictures will be a big help) and plan to do and they will decide whether the proposed entry is eligible or not.  Scrapped models that have been reduced to component parts or sections can be used.  You may also use a completed sub-assembly taken from a previously-assembled kit which you want to incorporate into your GB entry.  If in doubt, then PM the Moderators for clarification.  Their decision is final - we are relying on the honour of our membership to uphold this rule.

7.    Moderators are Kitbasher and Scooter.

8.    The completed entries thread will be locked at the end of the GB and shortly afterwards the poll will be set up.  The number of votes per forum member will be based upon a ratio of one vote per three entries, rounded up or down to the nearest whole number.

9.  The first three placed entries in each of the Group Build polls will automatically be nominated for a Whiffy in the specific Group Build Class.

In the event of a tie in the poll there will be no run-off, we will simply have a joint first place and then a third place (no second).  This is to preserve the 'three into the Whiffies' provision as detailed in Rule 9.  Similarly, a three-way tie will mean there is no second and third (please don't ask me about a four-way tie!).
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Just to make it clear, from the wording it does not include defending forces? Had an idea for a Japanese vehicle, but it's down the list.

Considering the IJA/IJAAF and IJN/IJNAF would be defending the home islands from the Allies during Downfall, then yes Japanese equipment is allowed

Right appologies gentlemen, but I thought this link was included in the rules for some reason, and it isn't.

So here's the link to the Wiki article on Operation Downfall mentioned in Rule 2 above

I presume the mods have no objections to builds of Soviet vehicles operated by nation states partaking in Operation Downfall?

Items supplied, perhaps, as a form of Reverse Lease Lend by the Soviet Union to the UK or USA?

Try saying that after a few rums...

Shame there's no easily available Avro Lincoln's...

zenrat

Well, funny you should say that...

I do have all the makings of a Lincoln - Airfix Lanc + Blackbird conversion set + Red Roo detail set.  Maybe I should start it for this GB if only to goad Airfix into releasing their own kit?

It's a possibility, but i'm still pondering other options and to be honest i'm tempted to build it RW(ish).  But we'll see.

Do we have a suggested time frame for the operation? Just wondering as things like the Supermarine Attacker and the Sea Vampire may have had development sped up a little to get them out onto carriers.
