A real project from the 80s. But with some artistic libery  ;D

Wiki page

David (cpe63) was kind enough to part with one of the kits from his stash to enable me to build a proof-of-concept version of the flatbed transport based on the Boeing 707.

As always: no guarantees on the build time but the secret aim is to have it ready in November in time for the Dutch Nationals.

Go for it Tom! Happy to help with the model and as said I also have this VEB 727 and a aurora 727 both are about 1/100 so a tad bigger overall.

Oh yesssssssssssss, I LOVE that idea.

Yonks ago I started off one one of those, using an Airfix TriStar as the base kit, but it looked stupid as it was so short. It needed another TriStar to lengthen it, but I didn't have one then.

Now, of course, I have FIVE of them from various manufacturers...........  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Oh dear.. where will this go. What a concept and looking forward to it

Construction equipment isn't known for being aerodynamic- that trucker is going to need some serious load binders!

seadude

Whoever thought up that design during the 80's should have had their head examined.  :o  What a totally ludicrous and insane idea!
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

I'll admit the dump truck idea is a little silly. The transportation cost would add up to more than the cost of the vehicle. However, what about the space shuttle being hauled on top of a 747? Not quite a flatbed but it worked as a way to haul an oversized high value load.

And the Russians did the same with their Buran. But at least that and the Shuttle were slightly aerodynamic.  ;D

Mine will have three tanks as load

There were several USAF concepts concerning open flatbed transport aircraft, IIRC even in C-5 size. This will be ...interesting!

There's an article about the Lockheed Georgia Flatbed in the book American Secret Projects 3, page 244-246.

This is going to be totally stupid and brilliant at the same time...its a stupid idea as transportation goes as you need so many tie down points and straps it would be ridiculous cause yo would be able to trust any form of lock in place pellet system and earthmoving equipment??? Come on !!  :banghead:
The brlliant part will be Tom's build    ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I did the major part of the butchering of the fuselage.
