Whilst procrastinating over finishing the Drone Base Vehicle, I have been rolling over 3 Real world shelf models which were close but not quite done over the Christmas period.
One is a Sherman M4 (105mm) and this is awaiting different tracks, as I plan to do a British Sherman 1B version. The turret was off and to paraphrase Billy Connelly..Wait a mannet !  What does it look look on the M10 hull I have stashed away with no turret (used on another project).

It looks like this. Not too unruly for my eye. Fits slap bank in the existing Splash ring.. so good enough for me !

So what if, during the Russian continuation of WW2 after attacking the exhausted Allies through Germany, vehicles were re-used with different components (Straight out of Colin Gee's Red Gambit books)
So, maybe there are Achilles and M10 hulls that are refitted using 105mm Sherman Turrets, to give a fully armoured Closed top Support Gun vehicle. I figure if the 17 pounder fits an M10 and the Sherman.. then why not the other way using the 105mm ? Adapt a turret to fit. In RW there was some initial work for for a Turret for the M10 chassis with a bigger gun than the 3Inch, maybe the M36 Jackson killed that off.

Printed a Sherman Turret off Thingiverse. This is the test print, the final version was a bit more modifed by removing the hatches that were pretty much going to get trashed anyway during the cleanup process.

Starting to get the vision I see in  my head happening in Plastic, Mantlet is test fit at the moment, will probably go a heavier type.

Details added to the Turret

Sort of looks a bit RAM ish. Maybe it could be Canadian, if British floats the boat.. I reckon I will call it the Curate, to stick with the ecclesiastica names for SP Guns.

Maybe the Troops would have called it 'The Curate's Egg' - as in, 'Good in Parts'...  ;)

Yeah, a RW 105-specific mantlet would be the go.
I think this is one:

Anywho, HTH and we look forward to seeing the completed model.

Hmmm?  :-\

If you're going the 105mm or 3-in, they were pretty-much CS guns (very useful) but the M10 hull may be a tad too lightly armoured for a close-in fight with Soviet infantry, who may be using Panzerfausts or an improved form of RPG-1 or an earlier development of the RPG-2.

So, maybe some bolt-on slat-armour-like panels, maybe using angle iron, to deflect/damage the shaped-head charges?

More armour for the M-10 would always be a good bet!

Thanks for the interest

Not quite where I was thinking. I see this as more like the sort of thing the Churchill NA75 did, indirect fire or longer range direct fire missions as the main role support other armour

The hull already has some applique armour from a previous life

Rick Lowe

Another look at the photos and I see in the first one it already has the 105-specific mantlet, so no more printing needed...

buzzbomb

Whipped up a new mantlet today. Probably needs a canvas shroud as well now.

This is about as far as I intend to go with this for a quick palate cleansing build. Slap some paint on and that will be it.

Rick Lowe

A quick, painless build helps restore mojo and keep you interested.

I like the idea, but the turret you used is atrocious :(
... I know all this and more ...

Gun's a bit small Buzzo.  How about one with a 155mm...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Not it in this guise.. sorry to say. 105MM is quite big enough for this mix and match

Tick this one off. Quick build only whilst waiting for other stuff

Mantlet now has a dust cover. Also added a small bit of counterweight to the rear as the Mantlet is a bit chunkier than normal, as it is the 76mm version.

Went the British markings as nothing in my decal stash for US worked for me. For the (ever so brief) backstory, it will do.

I like that ..the lines are quite pleasing to my eyes and if my eyes like something then so do i ,,strange that  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Just a point; you did realize the first mantlet you printed, in the first picture you posted, is the RW 105-specific mantlet, right?  <_<
