Ju 588 "Fafnir" / 4 prop

I am collecting parts for the Ju 188 project.
That will have 4 big props in push/pull configuration and a canard design.

The fuselage is from the 70's Matchbox kit ( that i like very much ) .

Wings are from a 1:35 Fw190 .

After some searching, I found the tubes I needed for making the engines on Amazon. I already had four suitable propellers lying around, and the hubs determined the size of the nacelles.

I was looking for 18 mm and found 18x14 mm acrylic tubing, which I consider a better choice than PVC tubing, which is difficult to glue or sand properly.

I spent a lot of time figuring out how to attach it, as the connection needs to be strong. So, my plan is to cut a slot in the nacelle and glue the wing into it, adjusting it accordingly. I would have simply butt-glued polystyrene without hesitation, but I'm more cautious with two different types of plastic.

Beforehand, I added two tenons to the wing to reinforce the end.

After a few hours of sawing and filing, it fit perfectly.

I used a special acrylic adhesive to bond it very securely.


Beforehand, I filed the gondolas slightly conical and sanded them completely to a matte finish so the paint would adhere properly.

Of course, you have to keep checking the alignment with the diagram to make sure the bird flies straight.

The very special ACRYLIT Glue will set with light.

After 20 Minutes the connection was ready and very strong, so i also fixed the wings with the fuselage. That's always the wedding in the process 😍.

Nice imagineering! You are right, a strong joint here is essential. This should do the job perfectly.

Yes, two very little details are left, but overall that's ready for flight.
