What? The Gannet's a LOVELY aeroplane, no way is it ugly.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

They are definitely trousers, spats only cover the instep, top of the foot and ankle.
The wheel and tire in the case of an aircraft undercarriage.

That said, no polite aircraft would be seen in public in pants.
