What if you take a DUKW

and paint it up like this:

I appreciate that this is an incorrect interpretation of the caunter camouflage and is a whif in itself. But I find it more visually appealing than the correct scheme:

Firstly, great idea. I was trying to think of a DUKW related idea for this GB.
Secondly, the green, blue, tan caunter camouflage isn't too inaccurate, Its just how the original paint scheme fades in the desert sun isn't it?
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Started the DUKW. This airfix starter kit is pretty poor quality. A fair amount of flash and poor fit. Also, this is the greasiest kit I've ever seen. I usually dont bother washing sprues and rely on canned spray primer to do the initial paint adhesion. But even that is struggling. I get that its old moulds and that is why they are so cheap - but if airfix are expecting kits like this to be people's entries to the hobby, the risk turning people off.

Anyway now that I've laid the ground work of excuses...

I wonder if that explains a few old kits I've bought that seem to have grown mold or fungus like material on them. It washes off ok but it's kind of gross.

Crucial detail question: what colour beret would British transport vehicle drivers be wearing in North Africa?

Major assembly completed.

Doing a colour check

I think left most blue and "yellow" plus bottom green. Thoughts?

My origional answer was lost, lucky the memory is still reasonable

Immediately post war RASC berets were an extremely dark khaki. So probably the same during the war, although "dress codes", especially in the Western Desert were not so strictly enforced  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Moving forward with this. I am pretty keen to see how it comes up in that type of scheme.

Me too! Currently sat waiting for opportunity to get back to it. It's got its first coat of green so it currently looks like a standard duck.

I'm pondering how I might get a bit of "nose art" on it. Specifically:

I love the DUWKs and appreciate the nose art.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.
