I've been looking at the Indo-China and Algerian wars recently and I can't understand the reasoning for aircraft being painted in different colour schemes. Some are bare metal, some are black and white, some are yellow and some are olive green. Do the schemes vary by role, theater, date of manufacture etc?

I believe that in most cases it came down to what scheme the aircraft were delivered in.

That's my understanding as well.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Ahh right ok, that makes things easier then. Do you know if the Invaders were painted black for night ops or just because the French thought it looked cool and stylish?

The B-26s were bailed from USAF units in Korea, they were already black.

The C-119 in the background probably is, too.
