Sukhoi VRD



Designed as a purely research aircraft, the Su-VRD was to have an annular intake scoop surrounding the fuselage behind a teardrop-shaped cockpit.  The nose section would have housed both the cockpit and a fuel tank, and was to be attached to the larger diameter central fuselage by four pylons.  The central fuselage was to contain the powerplant, consisting of an air-cooled engine with an oil cooler and twin propellers that served as an air compressor, followed by the jet engine's fuel injection section and finally the actual combustion chamber.



Although slated for production, the Su-VRD never made it beyond the drawing board.

I started to think this was a kitbash! I had to look it up on the web. The back half looks like it came from a DC-3.

Absolutely fantastic build! Even more astounding that it's a Unicraft kit and not a short run like AModel or Avis.
