USAF Eurofighter

Here's my USAF F-30A Typhoon.  I figure this plane was sold to the USAF in one of those "Be nice to the arms dealer offering new toys" sessions that probably go on behind the doors in the Pentagon.  I used some decals from an old Italeri F-15 and modified the decals on the serial number to say "00" as the purchase year (originally it was "80").

This model is an old 1/72 Esci Eurofighter that I gotta say is a nice model, as long as you don't look at the instruction sheet!  Really, the top side of the plane is OK, but the bottom side is really mucked up compared to the real one.  I'm nowhere near a JMN, but the detail on the bottom was not something I was happy with at least with respect to the directions on how to build it.  The instructions tell you to mount the nose door on the other side of the wheel well, and the main gear wheels are mounted so the face one another as opposed to facing outward!!

After I got over my confusion about the bottom of the plane, I initially was going to make this another Naval Eurofighter, but was not happy with the initial paint job.  It looked nowhere near as good as the German Naval Eurofighter I'd already done.  I repainted it like an F-15, removed the tailhook as best I could (I'd just about had it with the plane at that point), left the tandem nosewheel, and fixed the incorrect facing of the main gear.  I left the incorrect position of the nose gear's door, as I figured the USAF would do something odd like that once they got ahold of the planes.  Naval Typhoons in USN service I figure would be called F-30C's.

Getting back into modeling

Glad I had time this week to actually sit down and start posting this stuff.  Been wanting to post pics for a while, but haven't had time.  I'm working out of the home this week, so it allows me to get a whole bunch done I've been meaning to do for a while.  Unfortunately, the weather's been so nice, I almost wish I was back at the office so I'd be less tempted to blow off working and go do something outside.
