The white plastic is extra armor. There's kit includes the add on armor for the sides. I'll be using those. I need to do something around the mantlet area. There's a gaping hole below the mantlet. I'll check some more other vehicles to get some more ideas.

I should have written that better bud  ;D
I was talking about the manlet and that's what i should have said ,, lack of coffee will be to blame  <_<
You could make a manlet from epoxy ,,Tamiya's quick type epoxy putty is great for this sort of thing ,,i've done that many times just for that purpose and it's dead easy to get a custom made part which sets models off really nicely .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I'm using the mantlet from a Jackson kit so that's covered. I had to cut both ends down to make it fit better.

Referencing the 'SU-100i' moniker AFAIR, according to the info I found when I was doing my SU-76i, the 'i' designator stood for the initial letter of the Russian for 'Captured'.

kerick

I picked up on that too but didn't worry about it. The writer probably didn't know about that. The Shermans were lend-lease, definitely not captured. I can see why the Soviets didn't go ahead with it. They had lots of demand for what they were already producing without starting up a whole new production line. They had an ammunition shortage for the Shermans so reverse engineering 75mm ammunition would have been more useful.
But this is whiff world so why not build one? Maybe later.

Inostrannyy and inorodnyy are the two words that occur most frequently as a translation of foreign. It's more likely that the "i" stands for one, or possibly both, of those terms. Zakhvachennyy and trofeynyy are the two common translations of captured.

It's likely that whoever wrote that the "i" referred to captured didn't know what they were talking about.

That's a cool idea for an assault gun but not a very smart one for the russians ,,,,when everything they have is based on either a T-34 or IS chassis and then throw in a Sherman which shares zero mechanical  parts with anything else it kinda makes sense ,.  one other thing would possibly be how bad Shermans are on very soft ground with the quite high ground pressure they have but that's just a thought more than anything .
Could also be how cramped it would have been inside with a 100mm gun stuffed in there ,,i've had the pleasure/displeasure of getting inside a M4 in the UK many yrs ago ,,man with my frame
Also the 100mm round that gun fired was quite big so that could have been a factor as it's a fixed round and being close to 700mm in length .
Swinging that around inside a Sherman hull would not have been fun .

Any number of reasons not to build this but sometimes war demands crazy solutions. Putting the 100mm gun higher up and placing a simple casement around it might have worked if the situation had demanded it. In the RW it looks like the Soviets made the right decision but in whiff world, who knows?

Road wheels are done. I even painted the idler and drive wheels separately while I was at it.
Between snow shoveling and working with my son to get trim back in place I managed to screw my back up royally. I've taken a few days off to recuperate and am feeling better. It's nice to not have a little gremlin following me around stabbing me in the buttock at random intervals. I have used this time constructively to do some work on the Sherman.

The Soviets received over 4,000 M4A2, split roughly evenly between M4A2(75)W and M4A2(76)W.
How "bad" the M4 is on soft ground has been exaggerated.
The interior of the SU-100 is smaller than the interior of an M4 based vehicle would have been.
