October 2030.  Poblachd Neo-eisimeileach Feachd an Adhair Alba (Air Force, Independent Republic Scotland)takes delivery of the first of 65 (57 single & 8 two seat) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries ASF -X Shinden fighters, allowing replacement of the long serving F/A -18E/F. To be named Clamhain (Buzzard) in service. To those unfamiliar, the Buzzard is a large bird of prey quite common in Scotland.
Powered by two EJ200 afterburning turbofans in superimposed mounts, aircraft is fitted with a 25mm rotary cannon and, has 4 internal weapons bays with an option to fit 9 external hardpoints as an alternative.
A Whif for a Whif! Basic kit is the Hasegawa 1/72 ASF-X Shinden II. Lovely kit which is a delight to build. Model carries 2 x ASRAAM , 2 x Meteor AAMs 2 x Taurus Missiles , 2 x 2000lb LGBs. Brush painted using Revell Aqua and Humbrol colours. Masking the colloquially named "Haggis and Heather" scheme was time consuming but rewarding. Heat staining on the hot end was accomplished using a variety of metallic eye shadow pigments applied over Revell Aluminium.
In real life, this would be a BIG aeroplane, about the size of an F-15E.

I've got another three of these kits, one of which will appear in Royal Navy colours (no, this is NOT a VTOL aircraft) and, two more in Canadian and Spanish colours respectively as part of my Trump effect collection.

Thank you . I gave up my airbrush nearly 30  years ago and, reverted to brush painting. Even though I got good results, for several reasons, the wretched thing was more trouble than it was worth

The camouflage is a variant of the Swedish  "woods and fields"/ splinters.  In all probability, it is known as the "Haggis and heather"  design to the Scottish air force.

I think the Swedes actually called it Fields and Meadows "? Not that it matters 😉😂

'Haggis & Heather' works much better for a Scottish aeroplane, even if the colours are the same.
