SaRo A.38 Bangor

Now we all know the Saro SR-A1 jet fighter flying boat. The SR-A1 first flew in 1947 and was worlds first jet-propelled water-based aircraft in the world. The concept behind the SR-A1 originated during the Second World War as a reaction to Japan's successful use of military float planes and the emergence of the turbojet engine. The concept of the SR-A1 was to deploy the fighter to forward Island bases without the need for complex infrastructure. While the SR-A1 was rather heavy and soon considered underpowered (1951) there was a growing need for a more powerful twin jet powered water based fighter. At the same time more reliable radar was entering service so both concepts were combined into one plane the SaRo A.38 Bangor. This plane made it's first flight in February 1954.

This is the model currently without its radome. Some last PSR need to be done and the radome (will be put on. Still considering the outer underwing stabilizing floats. I might use Meteor underwing tanks as end of wing floats. But another option is to use some rather streamlined E15K1 Siun "Norm" floats I have in the parts bin. Not sure yet.

That looks suspiciously like an heavily PSR'd Airfix Boeing 314 flying boat hull you have there, but what are all the other bits from please?

Love this! The engine placement is just right.
I would suggest a couple of long fines on each side to keep spray out of the intakes.
The paint job will make this awesome.

Fuselage is an 1/144 Airfix Boeing 314 all Windows, doors, hatches are filled. Stabilizers were left off.
Engines are from a 1/72 Canadair CF-100 shortened.
Wings are from an 1/125 DC-9. Horizontal tailplanes are also 1/125 DC-9.
Vertical tail is a wing from an Italeri F-84.
Canopy is a bomb aimers canopy from a Tupolev TU-2.
Radome is from a Meteor NF14.
