Hi all

Here's something I built over on Sprues for the Fabulous Fifties Group build.

First here's the lame backstory........

Although still very experimental Avro obtained a licence to further develop and build the YF-1 Pogo in the the UK.  As the design progressed Avro addressed  many of the shortcomings of the original aircraft. A primitive television was incorporated to help the pilot judge the landings easier, high speed hot-air was bled off the exhaust and used as puffer jets to improve  the manuverabiliy of the aircraft in cross winds when vertical, and also assist the transition from vertical to horizontal flight. More importantly more powerful engines were fitted to allow it to carry a modest offensive payload. Later it would be fitted with RATO equipment which allowed the aircraft to carry more munitions.

Eventually it was accepted into the RAF  as the Avro Lance F1 and designated as point defence interceptor armed with two 20mm cannon and four sidewinder missiles,

It was viewed with some scepticism by the service engineers when it first arrived and was given the moniker 'Avro Durante' by the ground crew. However they soon warmed to its foibles and the pilots came to love the aircraft as once it was off the ground and in normal flight it was a hot rod of a plane.

The Lance was involved in a few interceptions of soviet bombers and participated In some military exercises but it's service life was mediocre,  never really getting involved in much.  Gradually  it became more and more plagued with mechanical problems until it was found that the strain imposed on he propellor gearing by the vertical take off was becoming too much and causing some non-fatal but nonetheless spectacular structural failures which finally led to the aircraft's withdrawal from operational service and subsequent scrapping.

Although the Avro Lance was not a game changer, it served as an adequate stop gap until better, more advanced and more practical  aircraft became available.

And now the pics.......

First in its parked state.....

.

And now in flight, I haven't used the tripod stand for a long time, probably years.

Please note that the circular photo light failed at this point so the colours on the following pics have a distinctly different hue as the were taken using the ambient room light and brightened in an app.

And of course the legendary mandatory scale shots

And if you are having trouble seeing the pics because Imgur threw a wobbly a solution is here :-  https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=54306.0

Your VPN system may well work to see Imgur pics, but it's for Opera, and not everyone uses that, me for one. Also, I suspect it may only work on phones, and I use a laptop for serious work.....................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

It works on phones and tablets using the Android operating system, i did state this at the beginning of the instructions.  Opera is a free download and can be used instead of Internet Explorer.

I haven't had a chance to try it out on a Windows system using Opera for PC.....watch  this space  ;D.

Sure Rick, but you're in NZ and not subject to the Imgur block on the UK.  :banghead:

There's a huge range of VPNs available, not just that one, and most of them work fine on PCs:

Yes you can: when you're in the EDIT screen, there's a bar at the bottom of the text box which says something like DRAG PICTURES HERE TO ATTACH. They appear as small thumbnails under your post, and people can click on them to enlarge them.

Model looks good! Nice colour scheme and the arrangement of the Sidewinders is logical.

Or you can use the Blue Arrow and Insert function, enlarging them as much as you like - I usually use 200 or 300 in the top Size box.
