I started painting this 1/72 Trumpeter J-10 (which is a great kit!  No fitting problems at all!) and after I'd completed applying the paint, I realized I'd painted the wrong shade of grey on it for what I initally wanted this thing to be (I've got another... few... J-10's that I can fix my error with).  After adding a second shade of grey, this became a Hellenic Air Force J-10.  I put the missiles that came with the J-10 to the side, and used some leftover Magic and Mica missiles to arm it (again, initially intended for what this plane was supposed to be).  I added two under air intake missile pylons after finding a picture of a prototype J-10 with bombs on hardpoints in about the same location.  Used some decals from an old Esci F-5 (almost tempted to make it a Norwegian fighter instead) to finish it off.

You've got a real corker there. It's beautiful. Love the froggie missiles on her.

Wrong shade of grey?

There's no such thing as a wrong shade of grey here!

Congrats!!

Thanks again!

Well, incorrect shade of grey is more accurate.  I was going off of an older set of painting instructions for a Mirage 2000, and it called for too light a shade of grey.  When I added the intermediate blue, I looked at it, and it looked like one of Alvis's Avro Arrows (the greek one).  What was going to be a French J-10 (hence the Froggie missiles) became a Greek one with the addition of a third shade of grey, ala their current low-vis scheme on their F-16's and some of their F-4's.  I've got another J-10 that will be done up in the proper French scheme.

That is SOOOOO awesome. Man can you imagine the kink in the Congress's shorts if this actually happened!

I don't care what anyone else says, that thing looks like the Eurofighter!

Now I'm really temted to do one in prominent ID markings....

I think it looks like half a Mig 1.44, myself.  When I get my next J-10 done (probably a Russian one), I'll take some pics of it and the 1.44 next to one another.

One thing that really struck me about the J-10 is not only is it similar to the IAI Lavi, but when you compare it to pictures of the aborted Mig-33 (or Mig-35, I forget which... it's that Mig "F-16" looking thing), the fuselage lines, tail shape, and even the intake are very similar to one another.  I was thinking of hacking up a J-10 and adding Mig-29 wings and tailplanes to it to make the Mig-33/35, but I just can't bring myself to do that to such a sweet looking plane.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
