Don't Ekranoplans fly VERY low, in ground effect? I

If so that modded An-2 would run the risk of the fixed landing gear dragging in the water, or hitting the ground!

Build is going slowly but smoothly. I have the wings together but they have revealed errors in the Hobby Boss kit.

The leading edge of the upper wing is lined with quite tall ridges, these are supposed to be a fairly shallow corrugations - I've sanded them down a bit but, otherwise, I don't really care that much.

The top wing control surfaces are made up into a single surface per wing, there should be two. The An-2 has a huge amount of control surfaces but the lower & the inner half of the upper surfaces are flaps, with only the outer upper wing control surfaces being ailerons. Simple solution - cut he upper control surfaces in half & fill the ends where they butt up to each other. This will allow me to display it with the flaps down & the other control surfaces in different positions.

Man! Talk about fiddly! 

Just started putting the cockpit together;

3 parts for the control yokes (x2)
4 parts for the rudder bars (x2)
6 parts for the seats (x2)

And this is a 2012 issue kit!

26 Parts in this photo alone - I 'm pretty certain that the interior has a higher parts-count than the rest of the kit combined.

Not that low.  She'd be fine.

Are the adjusters on the seats operational?

Not that low.  She'd be fine.

Yeah, the cushion of air that creates the ground effect kind of prevents you going too low unless you force it. For a demonstrator, it shouldn't be a problem.

Who does a 1/72 An-2?  This is buildable.

I also dig the lightweight airboat at the back.  Looks like fun.

I find that to be the case with quite a few modern kits. Takes a few days to build and paint the cockpit and then it all falls into place quickly afterwards. Plus half the time you can't see much of the cockpit anyway

Both with my current Super Sealand and Dragon builds, even though I went to some lengths to paint and detail both their cockpits, NONE of it is visible. In the Sealand's case because the cockpit windows are so small, and in the Dragon's case they're so curved that your view is distorted. 

I'm not sure I'll bother too much on the next one I start.

I'm kind of addicted to over-detailing the interiors of my aircraft. I enjoy the process, so I can live with it & at least I'll know it's all in there! 

I think the plane I'm flogging the scheme from is a passenger plane but, just to make life easier for me, I'm making her a cargo hauler with an empty cabin - Hey, it's a whif, I can do that!.

They do that a lot in the RW, so why can't you?

I have a simple rule when it comes to cockpits ,,if you can see alot then do alot ,,if ya can't then don't 
But this is just me ,,eveybody has their own take on how they do their's which is the way it is ,,its also to " can i be bothered?' thing too ,,,sometimes ,,no

Primer primed & painting started.

The destructions say to use "Intermediate Blue" (mostly) where I've painted, but that is usually a shorthand term for "We don't have, or know of, any equivalent to "Russian Cockpit Turquoise"".

Unsurprisingly, nor do I, so I had a couple of goes;

1st effort using Vallejo Emerald (70.838)


2nd effort, using Vallejo Blue Green (70.808)


I think I'll leave it there. It looks pretty close.

I wanted to do a float version o mine when in one of my model plane mags there's a whole section on the AN-2 and in it ,,1/48th scale profile drawings complete with the floats ,,then i found out that there's a float version of the kit available 
I do wonder how hard it would be to scratch up my own floats ,,not easy i'm thinking ,,so many damn curves .

Oh Ammo do a russian fighter cockpit set with all the right colours in it mate ,,pretty sure your not going to go that nuts with this tho
