Quote from: scautomoton on October 03, 2025, 04:26:22 PMIt got me looking for the right kit to make an early F-15A. Seems Hasegawa F-15C re-tool from 1986 is the way to go apparently....

IIRC Monogram did an early one, and it was blue on the box art too. I've been converting mine to a 'Streak Eagle' for about 40 yrs now..................  :-\

Someone did. I thought it was Hasegawa ? Whoever, I built it and painted it that gorgeous blue  ;D

Eagle first flew in '72.
First 1/72 Hasegawa F-15 was released in '74.  Blue/Orange scheme in the box art.  I don't have one of these.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Weaver

Monogram did a VERY early prototype F-15 with the square wingtips.

That's the one, I still have the box somewhere. Not sure about the un-completed model though. :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I didn't have that boxing, similar though from memory. Cheers Fred

Finally finished! Imagine my surprise when I peeled off the canopy masking and it was almost perfect. A quick bit of finessing with a toothpick was all it needed for a couple of wibbles. There's a couple of dust specks which somehow have appeared inside, perhaps when I re-drilled the pitot probe holes in the sides, I really should have given the pilot a matt coating, and the metal finish of the exhausts is too coarse grained, but generally I'm happy with this. I gave it the lightest weathering to generate some character, but I expect all of these sorts of research aircraft are very well looked after so don't have much opportunity to get filthy. I added some very light oil streaks in the obvious places, plus I rubbed a lot of Tamiya Weathering powder along the top of the fuselage and nacelles, plus I grubbed up the area around the gun muzzle aperture (not that you can see it in these pics).

Proper pics to follow when/if it brightens up later today.

Now to try and finish the other project before SMW!

Steel Penguin

very nice.
the gloss on the pilots bone dome and visor adds to the look in my opinion,  wile " combat stuff" is matt, this is Research! and would be plenty looked after so the bosses and politicos are impressed, and the weathering on the plane looks flown but not straight out of the paint shop,
   from me
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

Not sure the colour is quite "me" ... but it looks great anyway!

Comparing the size of the pilot with the size of the airframe, I get the vibe of a relatively small aircraft?

Rick Lowe

Very nice.

Perttime - the size of the Airfix stand is a good indication, those things are small. And the pilot too, of course.  ;)

Captain Canada

Wow ! That's an absolute beauty ! Great job on this one.

As promised, some better photos taken earlier. I'll sit down this week and write the instructions, start printing a few off, and then the kit will be for sale.
