That makes the possibilities endless of who or what is out there .
Definitely something to think about

Some confusion about terminology there: you're talking about our galaxy having 100 billion stars, not our solar system. Our solar system is just our one star and the planets and other objects that orbit it.

Quote from: Weaver on July 30, 2025, 09:35:18 AMPerhaps Fred's idea would be acceptable if the aliens came from within our solar system, say from the alien base we all know is on the far side of the moon, or the as yet undiscovered aquatic civilisation beneath the ice of Europa? That would be launched "from within our solar system" to explore planets "within our solar system", wouldn't it?

To be honest that's the way my mind started to work when I got to bed last night (see I can't stop thinking about by Moderation tasks even in bed - seriously  :-\ ) . Something like that, or perhaps an alien spacecraft that was discovered derelict on some outer planet/moon. No one has any idea where it had come from, but it was recovered and tested within our Solar System.

Basically, must start from within our solar system and mustn't have FTL drive or any other practical means of reaching another star.

I just read about how the Oort Cloud reaches out to about one light year from our sun. Since that holds the comets and other objects that orbit the sun in extremely large elliptical paths could that be the limit for our purposes or keep it within Pluto's orbit?
I know, I'm not helping........

Then there is the galaxy tucked inside the jewel hanging from "Orion's belt" in Men in Black.

Can I be honest here ? I really don't want to be spending time moderating this GB, but I'm having to. So can we keep it simple and say that Pluto is as far out as it goes ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Right as far as I'm concerned the probe idea is fine as long as it's unmanned as that's simply a reverse of unmanned probes being sent from our system.

As for space stuka's ? I think the general idea behind this GB was not to go too far down the Sci-Fi/Fantasy path (although how you define that is beyond me, which is why I really didn't want to be involved), but there's nothing in the rules that says it can't be done.

Ok, no more crazy ideas from me. I'll save it for another GB. I'm searching photos for my moon buggy idea.
I found my collection of gold colored foil!

We really appreciate you doing this. This one seems a little more difficult as folks are coming up with so many different ideas.

I have no dog in this fight, because I'm not participating, but I think some people are really trying to push the boundaries of the spirit of the rules of this GB.

As I read them, what you should be looking at are real world ideas that didn't make it, or things in a similar vein using the technologies of the era(s), or near-future developments of those ideas/technologies, or current advances of RW equipment & technologies (Saturn 10 rockets launching Apollo 97, for example).

The full-on sci-fi ideas should be filed awaiting a(nother) Sci-Fi GB.
