Catching up with the next two steps of the Graf Zeppelin

Part 12/140 has some additional smaller parts for the lower deck and the next hull part

This is included in part 12

Everything assembled

More details of the lower deck

Part 13/140 is different, this time the work on the anchor chain mechanism continues, so more gears and shafts must be assembled. And, the second anchor chain is added to the mechanism.

The items of this part

So it's designed so the anchor chain can actually be hauled in and out? woweee..........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yes, there will be several moving parts. Guns, Rudder, Props, Aircraft Lifts etc. And light. And smoke from the funnel. There will be some kind of remote control included in the later steps.

Well, its 1/200 scale. So the model will be about 130cm long. But hey, there are plastic models that have the same size. But as this one has a hull made of metal, it will be heavy, its said that it will be 8kgs.

Work continues with the anchor mechanism.

Step 14/140
At the rear of the deck, the anchor spill is connected to the anchor transport rollers at the front by a shaft with bevel gears. The anchor chains are fastened to a toothed rack, and by shifting this rack back and forth, the anchors can be lowered or raised.

The components of step 14:

Step 14 completed:

With this step, 10% of the model is completed :)

The following step 15/140 completes the anchor mechanism gearbox.

It begins by closing the gearbox housing, followed by the installation of the electric motor which drives the mechanism. Once the gearbox was lubricated and installed, a successful test with the test board was conducted to confirm proper function.

The components of step 15:

Step 15 completed:

The now working anchors:

The following step 15/150 completes the anchor mechanism gearbox.

Now I'm confused!

@Old Wombat : As the model consists of 140  steps or "parts", i.e. one part delivery per weeks for 140 weeks. Or four every month as I get them now.  So, step 14 should be the 10% mark :)

Yeah, it was the "step 15/150" that confused me.  ;)

Oh...... I have corrected it....  :banghead:

Again two steps, 16 and 17.

Part 16/140 complets the anchor chain mechanism. as the end switch for it is added. I guess all those connectors will come to a control board in a later step.
Additionally, another Ju 87 is "build" by adding the landing gear and bombs. Surprisingly - and I do not know why, the propellor of the Ju 87 from step 10 has to be replaced by a different one. I cannot see any difference, so I have no idea why this replacement is required.

The flight wing so far

Step 17/140 will start a sequence of multiple hull parts to progress on the hull construction. So compared to the steps before, this is more "boring" and adding those screws to fasten the parts is sometimes  :banghead:

Parts of step 17

The hull so far:

The new part is a bit loose as it is just fixed by one screw, but this will be fixed when more hull segments are added

This time there are three construction steps in a row, this will complete the forward hull section.

Step 18/140 will add another hull part on the starboard side

Parts of step 18

Step 18 completed

Step 19/140 will add the last forward hull part. Still both sides of the hull are a bit "wobbly" as their forward connection is a single screw each

Step 19 parts

Step 19 completed

Step 20/140 will add a keel part. This one strengthes the contruction and after adding it, the hull is very solid now. The two holes in the hull will alter be used for the stand I assume. This is also used to get the wireing into the model.

Step 20 parts

Step 20 completed

The complete forward hull part now already weights close to 1,5 kg.

I don't think you'll be holding it in your hands to work on it for too much longer... or not for long stretches of time, anyways. ;)

Steady progress is happening.

It's looking a bit like a ship at last.
