While waiting for the Light Aircraft Grey underside paint to go off, I started on the second Harpoon missile, and what a fiddly job that is, the parts are SO small.

I've discovered that the four main wing are all slightly different to each other, and they're only meant to fit their own recesses in the missile body. No wonder I had such a job with the first one, but it would have been good if they'd SAID that in the instructions somewhere!  :banghead:

Sorry, I'm out of this GB.  :banghead:

After making very good progress on the actual build, that went almost perfectly to plan, once again it was the painting that's wrecked it. That pebble-dash primer meant I had to sand it all over, which screwed up most of the detailing, but now I've found that primer won't stay attached to the model! I masked it up before painting on the Hemp upper surfaces, but found that the tape took the entire colour and primer layers clean off when I had to re-position one mask. :(

I'm going to  have to strip the entire model and re-prime and re-paint it, and that'll probably wreck the masks as well, so there's not enough time for all that. I'll surely finish it, I've had the idea in my head for ages, but not for this GB.

Please can you  move this thread else where Chris.

That stinks!
I know it will be worth it when it's done.

Would a wipe down with white spirits or turpentine help as a key to protect the paint finish rather than having to strip the paint and start again?

PR19_Kit

No, the original and the second coat of primer just aren't adhering to the plastic. Not sure if it's the rubbish primer or some strange Sword styrene, but it means I can't mask up the demarcation lines as the tape just pulls all the paint off when I de-mask it.

It's an 'all or nothing' job I'm afraid. :(

Sometimes it's best to treat a short run kit like its resin and give it a wash and brush up.

I've replied to your message Kit.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Did you wash the parts before you started to assemble them?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Sure did, but maybe it needed something stronger than soap and water.

It seems that my original idea of bathing it in brake fluid won't work as it'll dissolve the resin bits, and thanks to Fred Zenrat for that sage advice.

So what can I use to strip ALL the paint off it without damaging any bits? I'll have to mask the open windows or the stuff will get inside and wreck my carefully painted cockpits. :(

I"ve got a 1/72 Sword FJ-3 in the stash so I'll be interested in how that builds out.

I used the Sword 1/72 EE/BAC Lightning T.55 for my kitbash Thunderbolt and didn't have any problems using acrylic paint with a hairy brush.

Fairy Power Spray has been relaunched, although I'm not certain its the same stuff. I've got some at home, I'll give it a try and let you know.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

If it's acrylic paint then Hannants sell an Extracylics-branded spray paint stripper called PURISOL. It doesn't specifically say it's okay with resin:

https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/PURISOL

I've got a little jar of something called "Eazi Strip Gel", a specialist model paint stripper, which I bought ages ago. "Eazi" seems to be the name of the company. Afraid I've lost the leaflet ages ago, so I can't confirn whether it's okay on resin or not, but I've put a bit on some resin scrap from the MUSTARD build so I'l report on the results in 24 hours.

I can't find it on Hannants, nor can I find a website for them, so it may be they're not in business any more. I did find a couple of web forum mentions which implied that it's more from the model railways world, and that would make sense if I bought it from the LHS I think I did.
