Sorry for not having a proper introduction yet. But this is more or less my interpretation of the Nord 501 armed VTOL concept:

The ducted fans will be fitted to the stub wings after PSR is done. Now doing a rummage on tail plane and verticals. maybe something like 1/48 Heinkel He 162 unit will fit.

Undercarriage will be in the form of retractable ski's.

Promising.

What/where are the fans from?

Ehm, from evilbay

No, they're sold as being replacements for RC aircraft and drones. I bolted the axle to the ducts and the rotors spin very nice in the ducts.

Thanks Dave.  That is good to know.  I have many tilt fan designs floating around in my head but having tried it once know that scratch building the fans will bring me no joy.

Airfix SR-N1s would be a source of parts but that's a lot of kit to buy just for a few parts.

I used 30mm ducts for this build as the cobra fuselage is tiny. I check this weekend the ducts from an SRN.1 and compared it with the 30mm edf. It's almost the same! Outside shape is a little different  but dimensions are the same. Also bought some 64 mm ducts for a future build with an airline body (usually about 40 mm in diameter) or 1/48 uh-60 body.

Like you I also have some future plans for ducted fans and bought me some extra EDF's. Do you want me to share the link?

Now I'm thinking about ducted fans 😆
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.

For those thinking about ducted fans only . It's something else than onlyfans...😆

Here the link to the 64mm fans:

And here the link to the 30mm fans:

You can easily find more search results by using the same words. I bought the ones without the motor, cheaper that way and no need to motorized anyway.

You can also find the fans without the ducts.

Have fun and Cheers!

Thanks Dave.  There are hopefully local options here with cheaper postage cost.

Weekend update:

The wingstubs are sanded, ducted fans are glued to the wingstubs, tailplane & vertical tails assembled and ski's made and glued to the body. It sits beautifully on it's ski's.

Now to control the plane there will be flaps below the ducts so the airflow is controlled by the flaps. For low speed control I'm thinking about putting a tube from the exhaust to the tail so the exhaust can be used to control the tail. By swiveling the tube ( see the marks) the airflow from the exhaust controls the tail and thus steers the plane.

Next up is to sand and polish it all and get it painted. I Think it'll be in French armee de terre colors ( like the Gazelles there using in real world).

Gondor

A NOTAR tail, makes sense

Gondor
My Ability to Imagine is only exceeded by my Imagined Abilities

Gondor's Modelling Rule Number Three: Everything will fit perfectly untill you apply glue...

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

PR19_Kit

Would it need any sort of 'tail' if the fans rotated in opposite directions?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

I've ordered two ducted fans from a local RC aircraft shop.
