This is a bit similar to Wardukw great Sturer build. Maybe a "How about a too big gun on a rather small vehicle". Sort of a mini 2S7 Pion
So here I go, bit of new kit of the Dragon 1/35 BMP-1 and a pre-loved, very ordinary Skif BS-3 100MM Gun

A bit of hackage to get the top off and starting to add a few bits and pieced that sort of look like the BMP-1 interior and shuffle some stuff around.
Early days yet. One thing is already apparent, which the thought bubble did not suss out.. loading this sucker is going to be "interesting".
Perhaps work on a procedure where the gun is taken to max elevation so the loader/s do not have to hoik a 100mm round over their head. Or something like a rudimentary loading hoist.

Now apparently, the steadfast folks in the Ukraine are using these guns from 1944, mostly in a field gun role, but the interwebnet mentions an unconfirmed report of the BS-3 on an MTLB chassis, so who knows, this might actually be out there. The BMP-1 is a much smaller and lighter vehicle though.

Might even help to manage the recoil by sticking the BMP in neutral and let it roll back.

Ohhh Buzzy mate 👍 👏 🙌
I'm loving this bigtime  ;D

Right ..let's sort this out...remove the rear doors completely...remember ..the Russian government doesn't care about its forces ..so out side the crew will be...also ..solves the loading problems .
Build a new floor on top of the inner frame and new gun mount ..some ammo can be stored along the sides ...remember these sorts of Russian vehicles have damn near no internal ammo carrying abilities.
If ya wanted you could build a couple of manually operating spades for the guns recoil .

Annoyingly bud the BMP 1 or 2 I think would handle this gun ..now if  you could up to 122 or 130mm then there's a problem 😆
152mm would definitely be a bad idea 💡 🤣
An idea to make what ya have bad..make it as crude as possible..a really bad field mod ..then bad ideas would abound
The gun held in position with logs and rope ..the trails cut off and stuffed into the corner of the hull..that way when the gun fired it wouldend up buckling the hull ....oh the back doors i just remembered are whrre the fuel fanks are too by the way...so they'll have to remain unless you install new tanks under the floor ..a very bad place for em ..the floor will already be there anyway ..take a look inside a real BMP ..mate theres very little space inside them and very little height between the floor and the upper hull.
Yep ..this could turn into just a bad idea across the boards 🤔 😅
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

This is certainly a bad idea as the seats in the middle of the BMP were the fuel tanks. So where is the go juice going?

Man, are you going to be disappointed  ;D pretty much none of that is going to happen.

Yes the tank/seats has to go. I have a revised solution in mind

Pretty sure I can over engineer the build of this to perhaps move it from a bad idea to barely tolerable. Only idea I have for the GB though, outside of this I really have nothing.
Although I do have the marginally better Skif 122mm D-30 in a box somewhere, but that gun is nowhere near as long or as unweildy and might actually work quite well in this configuration to my way of thinking.

Hmm, might ditch this as a GB build and move it to a normal Whiffer build.  Thinking time

Plain old steel oil drums hung off the sides. Or, seeing as it's the modern day, the blue plastic drums that are all over the place and used for a wide range of liquids.

Dude take the muzzle break of the D30 and stuff it on the BS ...or what I'd do is cut the barrel off the BS and stick on the D30 with its muzzle break..hell  a standard D30 has a hell recoil ..don't stand near it when it fires ..trust me  ;)
Then you'll have a long barreled D30 ..that will mess up BMP nicely 👌
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

I like the 55 gallon drum fuel tank idea. Perfect for a Bad Idea.

Sounds like the seat/fuel tank combo was already a bad idea. Kind of like the fuel tank inside the M113.

Some progress
Experimented with using the D-30 122mm gun, another from a storage box Field gun I have... filed for future project.. I like this.
you can make out the new fuel tank location against the engine firewall.

So back on project at hand. Because the gun sits so high, added in a layers seat and a loading platform. Also added a basic detail on the interior of the doors, as they are staying on as they can contain fuel.

Basic detail of the firing ports, to try and get over this is a pretty basic conversion of the vehicle

But the nagging voice was grumbling about the weight and balance of the gun, so repositioned the suspension to be a more "posterior" down state

This already looking bad Brian mate..perfect  ;D

Moving along

Building tracks. I have to say for the age of this kit, the indi links snap in just lovely, I use the jig to try and keep them straight.

Rudimentary, getting the impression interior

Test Fit

Paint begins.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

That will about do it.
A bit of protective superstructure added on. Then a test fit.

Next get it all together and then the paint shop
