Hmmmmm. I can imagine some people thinking that is a little too close to reality. Only then it was numbers.......

Perhaps an RFID chip in your nose?
Or a tag in your ear?

While at Telford this I suggested we all had name badges. But then I've had one for years,

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Quote from: TomZ on November 30, 2025, 04:28:29 AMIndeed I didn't catch your name when you introduced yourself. Sorry. My ears are not what they were years ago so some things go past me.
It was noisy enough in that hall :) But I forgot to say you guys' display was pretty impressive. Just not enough military vehicles amongst all the what-if aircraft :)

Quote from: TomZ on November 30, 2025, 04:28:29 AMUnless I start forgetting faces too.........
I tend to have the opposite problem: "I know that face, but which name went with it again ...?" Including at EMS: somebody said, "Hey, Jakko!" and I stood there looking at him and had to say, "I'm sorry, you look familiar but I can't think of your name." (He turned out to be Michel Boer from Black Lion Decals.)

When walking around the show, it struck me that a good solution would be to have a badge with your avatar and forum name on it. But the difficulty with that is an easy way to produce those for everyone at home — I mean, I would have no problem making one for myself, but most people don't have the graphics skills to do so.

A roll of masking tape and a texter/marker is all you need.

Or, if you want to be fancy, those marker nametags commonly used at meet and greets or corpro meetings

I've always had trouble with names, which has caused "hilarity" with young ladies in the past  , but I'm good with faces

As for badges ? I had some made for the SIG members at Telford, but they only identified that we were members of the What If SIG, no names, no pack drill  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

For names, sure. But I recognise people on forums as much by their avatars as by their usernames (which often leaves me mildly confused for a while if someone changes theirs) so a badge with both on it would help me much more than just a name. It will also immediately tell everyone who is also on a forum on which you use that avatar and username, where they might know you from.

My avatar here really is ME, propped up against 'My Canberra' XH131.  ;)

This remembering names thing is a hug PITA for me i can tell ya .. i can meet a person ,,shake hands ,,say gidday and get their names ,,, 10 minutes later it's gone ,, what helps is if there's other ppl around here with the same name ,,ya know like Steve ,or Dave and so on ,,,I an kinda do faces but its like  "i think i've seen that dude before but no idea here "
We've got a bloke and his lady who visit the camp a lot and he goes by the name Noddy ..which i can remember as it's quite different ,,only found out a couple of weeks ago his name is Paul  ;D
Apparently he only gets called Paul when he's in trouble
I do like the name tag idea but using my avatar might be interesting ,,it doesn't look like me at all
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
