Hah!  ;D

I'd never heard about 'Ministry of Space' before I read your comment, but I see exactly what you mean now I've looked it up.  ;D

Actually, that's not inappropriate...

After a masking job to end all masking jobs, most of the paint is on the Durham now.

I really should have bought shares in Tamiya!

Just a bit of brush painting around the nacelles and on the tail, and gear legs etc, and then it's decal time.

That wing is set a long way above the fuselage, isn't it.
Almost like a Catalina with more fairing...

Here it is, together with the VAST pile of masking stuff I stripped off!  :o

It looks OK in that view, and the bit I was really worried about, the lightning stripe demarcation near the nose, worked a treat, but there are a few problems near the tail :(

The black paint has crept under the masking in a few places, despite having been Kleared around the edges, and in two or three places just aft of the wing the tape has marked the white paint, and it may need a re-spray around there.

I'm a little disappointed that it didn't go 100%, but I can live with the clearing up ops I guess.

Yes Rick the wing is a hefty way above the fuselage top, but I imagine that was to keep the cargo hold clear right up to the nose. What I can't understand is why is the tailplane is perched just a little way above the fuselage. Either some distance up the fin, or down ON the fuselage would seem better, but as it is, it's a REAL pain to mask and paint under it.

You'd have thought the guys at the Douglas Design Office would have thought of us modellers way in the future, and moved it to a better place!  ;)

My guess is the Boys from Long Beach didn't want their turboprop trash hauler to be confused with the Boys from Burbank's smaller turboprop trash hauler.

Indeed so, but with wings and a fuselage THAT long there's not much chance of confusion really. But the smaller one sold LOTS more eventually. all over the world even. AFAIK the Cargomaster never flew for any civvie operation, only with the USAF.

Hmmmm, that opens up some Whiffing possibilities, specially as I have hundreds of 1/144 airliner decal sheets! How about a C-133 in Aer Turas colours, or FedEx even?   ;)

it really is, most impressive seeing one in person, the C-133 wing is definitely way above the fuselage, not like a C-130 or other types where thew wing intersects the fuselage.

C-133's did indeed fly in civilian operations!  Three were rescued from the boneyard (one as spares) and they made it to Alaska and flew with Cargomaster cooperation for 2 decades.  They were never certified by the FAA for commercial freight, but there were some exemptions for government contracts and they flew infrequent trips to remote areas of Alaska with dump trucks, prefab buildings, school busses, oil equipment etc.

Here is a video of one carrying school busses and Kit you can see up close your massive horizontal stabilizer very early in the video at the :40 second mark.

That's fascinating Dave, many thanks for the link. They didn't have much of a 'colour' scheme, dud they?  ;D

They sure did not waste any money on a color scheme, and the rough hand painted registration number on the rear fuselage gives it an extra touch.....

IIRC the only real purpose of the C-133 was to haul a missile around. To maximize the diameter of missile it could haul everything was kept high and even then some loads had to be loaded with the missile frame kept level. The one I saw at the Dover AFB museum had a plywood floor with just enough strength to haul the spread out weight of the missile and nothing heavy like a truck our APC. Maybe jeeps.
