Yeah, something like that I guess. ;)
Sounds good to me!
A nice swords to plowshares deal!
More that Sandecker was a legendary cheapskate. :)

Well, there was also a rumor going around that a box of Sandecker's favorite cigars went missing and was used to bribe some Navy Admirals into getting the ship to use. ;)
Sandecker tried really hard to find out if Dirk and Al were behind it, but no proof was ever found.  ;D

Or did Al use his secret hookup out the back door of Sandecker's supplier? LOL

I have no spare letter decals at home to add the NUMA lettering on the port and starboard sides of my ship.
I've been looking at the selections here on this website, but am unsure what size might work best for my needs.

I do know I'm going to need lettering at least 3/8" to 1/2" inch tall.
Is there a railroad scale or regular model aircraft/armor scale that would come closest to that size?

It's impossible to say. The 1:1 scale letters vary in height anyway, so the model scale will be variable to suit your requirements. The only solution is to measure the actual decals, or ask the supplier to do so for you.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

1/2" at 1/350 is around 175 scale inches high. In 1/48 a 1/2" decal would represent lettering two feet high, for a 1/32 car that would be 16". The 22" HO Sale lettering is only about a quarter inch high... you might also browse Walthers.com. If you're looking at HO you want a scale ~48" letter.

Fantasy Printshop tell you what actual size their lettering is in mm. I find the Lufwaffe serials sets to be the most "neutral" font. There's a whole range of sizes in this ebay listing:

And some new pictures. I did finish the aft white lines on the flight deck. They didn't turn out too bad. But there's at least 1 or 2 tiny spots I might have to cover up with an aircraft and/or a flight deck tractor. Also added the red fire hose racks and life rings in various locations around the ship. There were two tiny antennas near the open roof panels for the aft weather balloon launch station. I removed one as I didn't like the look of it, and moved the other to a different location. Also finished adding all the life raft canisters for the ship. What I have to finish next for the ship is the following:
Add NUMA lettering on the hull sides of the ship.
Add the doors to the aft well deck opening.
Add aircraft and flight deck tractors to flight deck.
Build display base and attach ship and extra watercraft to base.

So I spent most of yesterday working on trying to come up with a different display base. The ship is not glued to the base in the pictures below. The original idea I had for displaying this model back in my first post on Page 1 of this model thread is dead due to various reasons. So I needed to come up with something else. Sadly, it meant smaller and cheaper. :(
I had at home a leftover piece of 1/8 inch thick white sheet styrene panel (24" inches long x 12" inches wide) and also a small piece of "cracked ice" ceiling light fixture panel. I painted the underside of the cracked ice panel blue, then attached that to the styrene sheet. I printed out a large emblem of the NUMA logo and was thinking of adding that on the far left side. Then add a small display of all the watercraft that the ship can carry on the far right. Then I was thinking of putting in the middle a little information describing the main ship and/or the watercraft it can carry.
Can't say I'm fond of this setup, but it's the only thing that came to mind. If anybody has other ideas and suggestions, feel free to post away.

Not done yet, but getting close. ;)

Only things left to do are add a weather balloon to the aft rooftop launching station and also add the NUMA lettering on the sides of the ship. I ordered some miniature balloons from Amazon today. Hope to have them on Sunday. As far as the lettering goes, I'm going to make a plea to my local model club members and see if anybody has any spare letter decals they can spare. Anyway, I guess this is the best I can do for this display. Not sure what else to add, etc., etc.
