Frankenfighter - Hawker P.1104 mockup

As mentioned on mg blog, a combination of a scrapped Matchbox 2-seater F-104, leftovers from the old-school Airfix GR3 that didn't feed the unfinished 'P.1054(ish)', a bit from the dire PM F-16, and other odds and sods.

Intended to be a factory mockup, akin to the well-known P.1121 mockup.  No undercarriage, just trestles/jacks.

Work to date: reassemble most of disassembled F-104, assemble and fit Harrier wings plus 'office' (sans seat, and small radome to be fitted when reunited with spares box), Hawkerfy the F-16 fin, work out how best to sort out the tailplane - again something requiring repatriation with the spares box.

A heck of a lot of filling and sanding will follow!

Progress pics in a few days.

Some progress since posting up the first pics.  Found the Harrier canopy and a suitable seat to put in it, also cut out and fitted (to chopped wingtips) missile rails.  It needs Firestreaks but I only seem to have unconvincing items from Airfix Lightnings.  Oddly there's more Firestreaks!

The shape is coming together, need to decide on a colour scheme - thinking akin to the P.1121 mockup (see https://www.mediastorehouse.com/p/164/hawker-p1121-18412474.jpg), but hat basic colour?  Sky perhaps, like the first prototype Hunter (and others)?  Would make sense.

Sounds a great idea, and that colour should go well. Will you file all the grooves in the sides that the P.1120 mockup had?   ;D

I've got some spare Firestreaks if you need any Dave. Mine are from Colin Frieghtdog so they're REALLY good,

Thanks for the offer, Kit.  Will have thorough delve to see what I have other than in the spares box.  IIRC I may have some PP Aeroparts stuff that's been languishing for donkeys.

Radome fitted, made from a PM Sea Fury drop tank.  Scrap plastic card fitted to the cockpit exterior to enable fairing in to the F-104 fuselage.  Minor work on the tailplane - have fathomed out how to fit it to the fin.

And some general filling in of joints and panel lines - much more work required there!

I think that Hawkers were really ahead of the game.

I think that Hawkers were actually working on the world's first 3D printed aircraft.

You can tell by the print layer lines. Obviously, the technology of the 1950s was not up to the task, which is why the aircraft was cancelled

A beautiful looking machine. Absolute travesty that it got canned

A private venture though, so if no one bought into it, it was going nowhere.
