The Wooksta!

TBH, I know little about Mustangs in general and sod all about the Griffon ones.  What I will say though is that I doubt any Griffon cowling for a Mustang would have the Spitfire style blisters above the rocker covers.  I think it would look very similar to standard Mustang cowling.  Mustang is a bit wider than a Spitfire and the thrust line for the engine a bit lower.  If anything, I think it'd look more like a Firefly V cowling, maybe an MB5 or CA15.

Actually, there's a thing - has anyone thought about navalising the latter?

Superb Build,Chris       Really looks Natural in RN Colors! Keep up the Superb Work       Dan

Chris, where did you get the decals for that? s the tailcode is for a naval ground station - Culdrose I think.  I think it's an RNVR squadron too.  Perhaps they were use to replace the Sea Furies being sent back to sea?

Hya Lee, the  decals are from a  sea fury sheet  I have, it is a NAS Couldrose  based aircraft that I  took the  numbers from.  I only  gave the  mustang  and seafire  fuselages a quick  comparison  by eye  and they  looked  pretty  similar, hence the  bulges.

Well Rolls Royce was going to do this for their Griffon engined Mustang   ;) This was called their Private Venture Fighter.

I like that  Robert, I think that it would  suit  being  drafted into the navy  too

For this Rolls Royce Flying Test Bed (Mustang with central engine), there is a Unicraft conversion kit: <_<

Thankyou Tophe, I am  tempted with one of those but its a unicraft kit so I am not sure if I dare  tackle one.  Is that Martin H from here that built it?

I built one a long time ago, modified into a twin-plane, see https://www.whatifmodellers.com//index.php/topic,28266.0.html (better may be done easily with higher skills than mine)...
I think our MartinH is the one that made the perfect model on Unicraft site, but send a PM to MartinH to confirm maybe.

Thankyou Tophe, I  shall message  him and ask him  what they are like to build, that's if they are still available  of course.

They're about but my advice is to run a mile before shelling out for Unicraft's garbage.  I had the Unicrap Mustang FTB but got shot of it - the surface texture looked like the master has been painted badly with a toilet brush before being dipped in sand.  I've quite honestly thrown away better castings than Unicraft are charging top whack for.

There are others of the same opinion on the site, but are less... brutally honest than myself, certainly less vocal.

I will  leave well alone  then, I am not as ambitious as I was when it  comes to  building stuff, and I  admire  your not sat on the fence  principles  Lee
Thankyou for  moving my build Chris, much appreciated.

For Griffon engined Mustang racers, there have been some different solutions, at last taking a quick look at drawings by "Taichi":

None of those survive to this day - unless Precious Metal can still be repaired after the fire.

A Reno racer would make a good conversion to a ultimate mustang fighter. Used with some success against Korean mig-15's perhaps

That looks good, Chris!

The Malcolm hood would be especially useful on approach with the big Griffon up front. ;)
