More AND Less build
« on: July 16, 2019, 09:49:52 am »
I started out with an idea for a 1/144 three engined DC-3. Not the later turbo prop version but a 1946 version powered by three Twin Wasps.

But then I had a DC-3 model left with only one engine. SO why not do both one more AND one less?
One Twin Wasp is obviously not enough to power a DC-3 so I hunted around in the spares box and found a Pratt & Whitney YT34-P-6. The YT34 produced 5500hp so that would be OK.
I kind of underestimated the size of this engine though, so just sticking it on the nose in front of the cockpit didn't work.

And so we end up with this pair:

Neat
The DC-3-3 looks kind of Italian?
One imagines the pilot of the single engined Dak (DC-1 ;D) would be blinded by the exhaust glare during night flying,
And that it would torque roll on take off, unless its having a Contra prop?

Keith

DC-3-1 looks, to me, like a super-sized Spad. ;D

All down to less powerful engines then nearly everyone else.

Not to burst some bubbles, but...

I am not aware of a conversion with three radials, though.  ;)

Absolutely BRILLIANT Tom!

I love your modelling AND your thinking here.  ;D

I rather prefer the tri-motor variant, looks very natural - and pretty in the Air France markings, too.
