two models I am going to mix:
The first project is this:
Saamerican P-51J-51: removing the tail and wings of the P-51, replacing them by J.21's, the rear of the P-51 pod being rounded with putty.
Northaab J.21P-51: removing tail and wings of the J.21, replacing them by the wings of the P-51, the pusher propeller being exchanged with the nose or maybe with the P-51 tail if possible.

Thanks, here is the project, illustrated:

I have replaced the first idea (J.21 propeller moved to the nose and adding the P.51 complete tail on the rear, because this was creating like a P-51B, not much interesting, the pusher canard layout seems better a creation)...

Today is fathers' day (in France, at least), so I opened the boxes. With joy:

It is here in the UK too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

So I hope many of us got model kits as gift... ;)

For this joyful day, I glued many white (P-51) parts and many grey (J.21) parts, before putting them together (without glue yet). To have a pleasant look of the mix!

Later, there will be cutting, PSR, hard work, less funny but today was so pleasant ;D

Cutting has started, not yet putty:

Second that. Looks very compact and purposeful.

Thanks a lot.

Building goes on:
- J.21P-51: the nose has received putty than sanding (to remove guns), and the canard foreplanes have been glued on.
- P-51J-21: some putty has been added in the rear to make it solid before cutting away the belly scoop (the same has been done in the nose to remove the little chin intake).

Love what you are doing here!  Both are looking very good. . . . Press on!  ;D

Best regards,

Thanks!

- J.21P-51: painting the underside (not to be seen normally for models of mine), with the white and grey parts both becoming light blue:

- P-51J-21: removing the scoops (belly and chin), then adding putty to make it solid again:

J.21P-51: painting the side above

P-51J-21: delayed sanding while the paint (of the J.21P-51) is drying... :-\

The J.21P-51 is finished, as 1/100 maybe (small cockpit, so not too much small size scale 1 at last):
