North American Sweepstang

The Sweepstang was a converted Mustang with swept back wings and a RR Griffon engine.
In an attempt to gain more speed the wings of the P-51 Mustang were replaced with swept back ones.

The result was a fast aircraft but it turned out to be very unstable and almost impossible to fly.

The sweepstanf crashed on its fourth flight.

Nice one Tom

Sometime ago I bought a High Planes Miss Ashley Mustang because it had swept wings (Learjet wings), that one crashed for real too ---  :-\

Looks good!

Reminds me of the Airacobra used to test swept wings.

You're right it does look like the L-39-1, not sure why it got that designation because Bell actually used a P-63

Brilliant work! I love the design, and the nicely restrained scheme. The contraprop is a great touch.

I was about to mention Miss Ashley II too! The next step for Gary Levitz maybe? For anyone unfamiliar with that machine, here's a video filmed a few days before it and her pilot were lost at Reno:

 This plane may be impossible to fly, scale 1, but as a desk model, it could be the winner!
