Real space: Arianespace Vega
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:01:14 pm »
The Vega is a launcher for small satellites (up to 2.5 tons), developed for ESA. It's been used for 9 launches since 2012.

There's no kit, so I scratchbuilt this, using PVC stock for the body (milled on my lathe), and some 3D printed detail parts (main engine nozzle, separation rockets, thrusters and the payload fairing). Scale is 1/144, the model is 22 cm high.

The rocket body in production, I'd glued some styrene strip on (for the cable conduits), then had to remove those again to cut the channels at the top of each stage:

the finished product:

the logo on the fairing is for LISA Pathfinder, a test satellite (launched on flight VV06) for eLISA, a mission to measure gravitational waves.

Redone 19/08/15  the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady added 07/10/18   take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.   wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

Awesome work Harro.

I've not seen work like that done before.
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
